What to expect

[Christmas Tree] It is a Kiso Hinoki cypress tree about 8 meters tall. Standing alone on snow-covered hills, it is also known as the “Lonely Tree.” This tree originally had no name, but its quietly standing posture is reminiscent of the romance and warmth of a Christmas tree, and over time, people affectionately call it the “Christmas Tree.” When you visit this place, be sure to feel the serene and lonely beauty and leave your own “beautiful life photo”!

[Takushinkan] It is a personal photography museum created by landscape photographer Shinzo Maeda. Mr. Maeda has been focusing on shooting the natural scenery of Biei for many years, and his works are not only popular in postcards and photography collections in Japan, but also widely used in various advertisements and commercial works. The museum displays a large number of precious photographic works, where you can relax and enjoy the magnificent and soft beauty of Biei’s four seasons. Outside the museum, there is a promenade surrounded by a white birch forest. Walking through it, you feel like the protagonist of the scenery under Shinzo Maeda’s lens. ⚠ Please take off your shoes before entering the museum. Photography is prohibited inside the museum. You can only use your eyes and heart to feel the photographic charm of Master Maeda.

[Shirahige Falls] It is a very representative natural landscape of Biei. The waterfall is shaped like a white beard, and the water in the pool is blue. Because the water flow of the waterfall resembles a white beard, it is called “Shirahige Falls.” In winter, the waterfall’s water flow contrasts sharply with the white snow, creating a magnificent scene like a picture scroll. ⚠ Please be careful of your footing and falling snow when visiting, and enjoy the winter scenery!

[Biei Station] It is a small and beautiful rural station built of red brick. The simple and warm appearance complements the natural scenery of Biei, making people feel as if they are in a Japanese drama scene, experiencing the pure and rich Japanese rural winter atmosphere. ⚠ When it comes to lunch in Biei, you can’t miss the Michelin-recommended “Western Food Cafe Junpei”, where the famous fried shrimp tempura rice bowl is the signature dish!

[Ninguru Terrace] (Pronunciation: NINGURU) comes from the Ainu people of Hokkaido, and in their language, it represents the little elves living in the forest. The entire market is as dreamy as an elf village. The forest market, composed of 15 wooden huts, is home to many unique handmade craft shops. There are also activities such as pressed flower experiences in different seasons. It is very worthwhile to take your time to browse, play, and take your favorite items home as souvenirs! ** ※ “Ninguru Terrace” has entry restrictions due to the snow season from January. If you cannot go on the day, it will be adjusted to go to “Shikisai-no-oka”. Specific arrangements are subject to the latest information received by the tour guide on the day.**

Review for: Hokkaido Winter Day Trip

Joined the tour on 12/19. There were no online reviews for this day trip, so I hesitated when booking. I was happy that the tour was confirmed after signing up. There were only 8 members that day, and we were picked up and dropped off in a minibus. It felt like a private charter, and it was easy to manage with fewer people, and everyone was on time. 07:10-09:45 Driving. 09:45-10:15 Christmas tree photo op for 30 minutes. There were fewer tourists at this time, so we could get perfect angle photos. 10:15-10:25 Driving. 10:25-11:00 Takushinkan photo op for 35 minutes. This spot was amazing for photos, absolutely gorgeous. 11:00-11:25 Driving. 11:25-11:45 Shirohige Falls photo op for 20 minutes, still beautiful. 11:45-12:05 Driving. 12:05-13:40 Strolling around Biei town for 90 minutes. 13:40-14:40 Driving. 14:40-15:40 Ningle Terrace for 1 hour. Because it was a small vehicle, we didn't stop at the tour bus parking lot, which was a 10-minute walk away, but instead parked directly in the car park in front of the terrace, which was super convenient. However, with this tour's timing, you can't see the lights turned on, which happens around 16:00. Be aware of this if it matters to you. So I chose to leave the tour and stay until the lights came on in the evening, enjoyed them to the fullest, and then returned to Asahikawa for accommodation, and the next day I went to see the penguin walk. Overall, this day trip was excellent. The weather was good, the vehicle was good, and the guide/driver provided excellent service. I paid a small amount of money and got a private charter experience, a total win! I don't know if the service would be different if there were more people on a tour bus, but based on my experience, I highly recommend it!

The tour guide was great because they didn't talk too much, allowing everyone to rest. The bus was a 23-seater mid-size bus, and the seats were bigger than airplane economy class, allowing you to stretch your legs and sleep. There were fewer choices for lunch (stopped next to Biei Station) with only 7-11, curry rice, and ramen shops available. Our group was lucky, it snowed all day starting from the Christmas tree farm. 7:08 Departed from Odori Park 7:50 Iwamizawa rest area 7:57 9:46 Arrived at the Christmas tree farm 10:18 10:16 Takushinkan 10:55 11:19 Shirahige Falls 11:42 12:09 Biei Station for lunch 13:40 14:28 Ningle Terrace 16:57 18:07 Returned to Sapporo Station If you enter Ningle Terrace during the day, it's not very photogenic and doesn't have much atmosphere. The one-hour stay is too long. It would be better to allocate that time to Shirahige Falls (only a 20-minute stop), which is the most beautiful spot on this itinerary, or go to Shikisai-no-oka instead.

Our tour guide, Xi Xi, is very professional and fluent in English, Japanese, and Mandarin. She is also very knowledgeable about the history and culture of the attractions. In addition, she has a lot of experience in taking beautiful photos. The photo time and itinerary sequence of this tour are really very friendly for friends who like to take lots of photos. Furthermore, the rest stops during the car ride are also well arranged, and we even tasted lavender ice cream and potato chips. I would definitely recommend it to friends who need to take a lot of beautiful photos.

Participated on 12/26, small group of 7 people. Before signing up, I compared many day tours, and my requirements were to take plenty of photos of Christmas trees, see Shirahige Falls, and the Terrace of Fairies, and this tour perfectly matched my needs. The tour was confirmed six days before departure, and everything went smoothly on the day of departure. The group members were all punctual; the driver was very enthusiastic and reminded everyone where the best places to take pictures were. It snowed that day, and the Christmas trees, Shirahige Falls, and the Terrace of Fairies were all beautiful. Takushinkan was also an unexpected delight, with a beautiful birch tree corridor. On the way back, there was a blizzard and a traffic accident on the original route, so there was a slight delay, but the driver was able to take everyone back to the city center via another route. Thank you very much 🙏🏻

This is primarily a sightseeing tour focused on checking off landmarks. However, due to limited time, I chose the one-day tour. This route is relatively unpopular (because there's no zoo), focusing mainly on scenery. Hokkaido is truly beautiful, and I also thank the guide, Xixi, for the explanations. The female guide was very attentive and also recommended many delicious local shops, enhancing the overall travel experience. I will definitely visit Hokkaido again!

A very niche itinerary ^^ It was a beautiful day, and Shirahige Falls framed the snow-capped mountains perfectly! Had a lot of fun! Unlike other tours, this one spends an hour and a half in Biei town and ascends the Four Seasons Tower. I love Biei so much! The tour guide, Xixi, is also very nice 🥰

So happy! I'm so lucky to have signed up for such an excellent day trip this time. I really like the arrangement of this trip. The driver and tour guide, Xixi, are patient, gentle, punctual, and conscientious! They also shared a lot of knowledge about Hokkaido. The itinerary is very well arranged. I recommend that anyone traveling to Hokkaido try this day trip itinerary. I really enjoyed this trip and will definitely come again next time. It was very, very great!

The XiXi tour guide and driver were also very good, and the itinerary was properly arranged. They set off as usual even though they encountered a blizzard that day. Although traffic jams reduced the time spent in each place, it was still enough to appreciate the beauty of Hokkaido. However, the car was relatively old and the seats were narrow and uncomfortable (it was hard to sit in the long-distance bus). It would be better if they could change to a newer and more spacious tourist bus!

First time joining a group tour! This is a small group tour, so we rode in a small bus 🚐. Friends who like to take beautiful photos can join this tour~ but remember to keep track of time! The last stop is Ningle Terrace, remember the location of the parking lot~ and thank you very much to our tour guide Sisi, who was very kind and helped us take photos 📷☺️.
