Located in mainland Penang just 14 kilometres (a 20-minute drive) from the Butterworth jetty terminal, Kampung Agong is a picturesque space surrounded by swaying coconut trees (there's an estimate of 500 trees here!) and traditional wooden kampung houses built on stilts. The coconut trees here look especially beautiful against a clear blue sky and vast paddy fields! For those accustomed to the city lights, Kampung Agong will provide you with a breath of fresh air and a glimpse of kampung life.

According to The Sun Daily, Kampung Agong was transformed by a private owner as an attempt to create a replica of olden kampung life. The owner named the place 'Agong' after the nickname of his grandfather who was the owner of the coconut farm since 1942.
After Kampung Agong started attracting droves of visitors in 2019, the owners decided to upgrade it into a visitor-friendly space. Now visitors can take photos all around the space as well as participate in a variety of village activities including coconut picking, fishing, putting on traditional attire, and learning how to weave coconut leaves into coconut brooms!

There are lots of props dotted throughout the kampung that are perfect for photos! Our favourites are definitely the hanging nests (there are a total of three of these, inspired by burung tempua nests), giant bird's nests which you can sit in for photos, and swings that look just like the ones you can find in Bali! There are a total of six swings in the area, but the most popular one is definitely the one that faces the beautiful paddy fields.

Don't forget to look for the mini jetty here facing a pretty pond filled with water lilies! There's also a decoy white grand piano where you can sit behind and pretend like you're Beethoven. The nostalgic vibe and laid-back surroundings at Kampung Agong will make you feel as if you're stepping into a Lat comic book.
