Cairns Railway Station is conveniently located within walking distance or a short taxi/Uber ride from most central city accommodations. For those driving themselves, Freshwater Railway Station is an ideal option, situated just a 15-minute drive from Cairns City.
For visitors parking at Cairns Railway Station, located at Cairns Central Shopping Centre, please remember to bring your parking ticket with you. We provide complimentary validation (no fee) prior to your departure from the station.
Both Freshwater and Kuranda Railway Stations offer free parking in the vicinity. Additionally, ample parking space is available for campervans and caravans at Freshwater and Kuranda Railway Stations, while it may be limited around Cairns Railway Station.

There are a lot of food options nearby the stations. At Freshwater Railway Station, there's a coffee cart open every day from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM. They've got all sorts of drinks and snacks. And when you get to Kuranda Railway Station, treat yourself to their famous Devonshire Tea or Mango Smoothie.
How many passengers does the train carry?
- Generally, we have capacity for over 540 passengers each train service.
- We can increase this for special events/charters.
- Each carriage has different seating capacity due to the various vintages of each.
What can I bring with me on the train?
- A daypack & small folding stroller (no higher than 25cm when folded) can be accommodated onboard our carriages.
- We have limited facilities for large prams.
- We do not have facilities for luggage storage at our stations or on Kuranda Scenic Railway.

- We can accommodate a maximum of four customers who are remaining in their wheelchair or mobility scooter per train service.

- Exception: Barron Falls Lookout does not have facility to entrain/detrain people who are using wheelchairs or mobility scooters.
