Kuju Mountain Area Onsen Ryokan This was my third experience in total. Each time, I chose a different location. The common advantage is the quality of the onsen (hot spring). Plus, the room rates are usually more affordable. The overall value for money definitely beats Kurokawa Onsen. This time, I chose to stay at Toranoyu. The cottages are scattered throughout the grounds. It offers several family baths (kashikiri) and gender-separated public baths. The onsen water is also a rich, golden color. The temperature is slightly higher than other onsen. The feeling of refreshment after bathing is doubled. Because the location is closer to nature, you can enjoy different seasonal scenery while bathing. I even saw a little deer appear right before my eyes. The meals are included in a two-meal (dinner and breakfast) plan. Although they provide breakfast and dinner boxes, the taste and sophistication are not bad. Looking back, the added freedom was also a good choice. It's truly a place I want to return to again and again.

Departing from platform 6 at Sakura-machi bus terminal, the buses are punctual and convenient. The tofu lunch was delicious, and dining in the traditional house was a unique experience. Be careful to note that the bus stop for the return trip is on the opposite side of the street. The driver takes roll call, which is reassuring.

A great traditional Japanese experience. I think the listing is wrong as it comes with both breakfast and dinner. The food was plentiful and is a set multi course meal with LOTS of food from Miso Soup to Horse Sashimi. Bedding is traditional mat and very firm so take that into consideration if you have a sore back or are used to a soft western bed. The options for private onsen were incredible. They all have doors that lock and you just go in whatever one you like as long as it's vacant and lock the door behind you. We never had to wait for one to be free. They were all undercover but some were open on one side looking to the bamboo which was nice. Overall, for my western taste buds & bed preferences - this was something very different and not for me long term. But you can't fault the staff and onsen. Worth one night at least for the traditional experience.

The service is very good. The hotel staff will help with parking. There are many public baths and they are also very good. The food is a bit weak. The nearby shops are closed at about 6 pm.

This is a tour without a guide, but the driver will check the name. Lunch is on your own and it is easy to find. We went on a weekday, so it was a bit deserted. However, if you just want to take a bath, you must choose a weekday. The journey is long and it took more than three hours. The seats on Japanese buses are very small (am I too fat!?) People who like hot springs can choose to stay overnight

There is no tour guide on this tour! But the itinerary is very detailed, including the boarding and alighting locations and the lunch place (the lunch is delicious). You can freely arrange your time and just pick up the bus at the designated location! There will be a ten-minute rest stop at Aso Station on both the outbound and return trips (toilet breaks available)

The room was spacious and neat, clean and tidy, with all the necessities. There are multiple hot spring pools in the hotel, and it never feels crowded no matter when you soak. The spring water temperature is moderate, making people feel very comfortable.
