Transport in Chiayi

We traveled on the day Super Typhoon Bavi was affecting Taiwan, so we were very grateful that our Taiwan High Speed Rail trip still operated safely and wasn't canceled. It gave us peace of mind and allowed us to continue our travel plans without major disruptions. Booking through Klook was seamless, and redeeming our tickets was quick and easy. The train was clean, comfortable, spacious, and departed on time despite the weather. The stations were well organized with clear signs, making it easy for first-time visitors like us to navigate. Traveling from Taipei to Kaohsiung was smooth, fast, and stress-free. We're truly thankful to the THSR team for their professionalism and commitment to passenger safety. The shuttle bus departs from the rear station of Chiayi Train Station. Please gather 10 minutes early. A reminder SMS will be sent the day before. For the Dragon Boat Festival long weekend, the ferry company provided ferry schedule information by phone the day before departure. Budai Port was very crowded, but the weather and sea conditions were good. The journey to Magong Port took approximately 80 minutes.

A great option if you want to spend more time exploring without feeling rushed. The bus operates on a clear timetable, so it’s easy to plan your day and know exactly when the next departure is. It made getting around stress-free, and I had an absolutely amazing time. I would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to explore at their own pace!

I think it is the most comfortable way to travel to Alishan. The driving was so steady that I could easily fall asleep. Also, it’s great to have a tour guide to talk about the history of Alishan, and having a stop in the middle was great for a rest from the hours long journey.

I rented a scooter here (Yiliu vendor) as an American with an IDP (motorcycle endorsement) license and everything went perfectly. Super easy pickup and drop off - one of the guys speaks good enough English. I drove the scooter to the Alishan area with no problems. they didn’t even ask about insurance or gas. I would recommend booking here for ease

it was raining which gives a different vibe. but overall still a great experience. Driver was punctual and gives simple but great recommendations.

The "Xuyue" train is definitely worth experiencing. Listening to the guided tour along the way and admiring the ever-changing scenery outside the window is a very different experience from the "Shanan" and "Haifeng" trains. Although the train has restrooms, they are extremely small and are the original, unaltered restrooms from the forest railway. Unless it's an absolute emergency, there's no need to use them on the train. The Alishan Forest Railway is a truly unique experience. I hope Alishan focuses more on conservation and less on development. After visiting Alishan, I hope everyone will cherish Taiwan's treasures even more.
