This activity was definitely worth it! Since we were traveling independently and wanted to visit Motonosumi Shrine, joining this one-day tour made things much more convenient. We were very lucky to have Jimmy as our guide on this trip. His initial self-introduction on the bus immediately livened up the atmosphere and had everyone laughing heartily. Since there were also foreigners on the tour, he spoke both Mandarin and English, which was excellent and easy to understand. I'd also like to commend the driver's excellent skills; although the journey was a bit long, we rested very comfortably. The only slight disappointment on this trip was that when we reached the mountain, the fog was too thick, so we couldn't really see the scenery. I look forward to coming back next time to see the beautiful views!

Glad we took this trip on a weekend since we were able to visit Karato Market. We were able to try tried Fugu and the sushi choices are very fresh. I loved the Toro Sushi. We were also able to see the different buildings in Mojiko Retro. I was able to marvel on its architecture. This is our 5th visit in Japan but it's our first time visiting a Japanese castle. Kokura Castle is a very good castle first castle. It has interactive activities that will keep you immersed. I also liked our visit to Miyajidake Shrine. It is very peaceful and one with nature. I also would like to commend our tour guide. My mother and I were the only two non-Chinese speaking members of the group but the tour guide was very helpful with us.

What a fantastic day trip! The meeting point was easy to find right outside Hakata Station, and the staff proactively confirmed our destination. The seats on the bus were comfortable, and the driver was safe and steady. Our guide, Lisa, was incredibly kind and enthusiastic, always offering to help take photos. Her explanations of the attractions were very professional, and she was fluent in three languages, which made our journey very relaxed and enjoyable. All the places we visited were beautiful, and we were even luckier that the cloudy morning turned into a clear, sunny afternoon. The most incredible part was that we could easily visit several attractions that are difficult to access by public transport for less than the price of a one-way Shinkansen ticket to Kumamoto – the value for money was exceptional. Finally, the schedule was well-planned, allowing us ample time to enjoy the scenery and take photos at each attraction.

This is an easy, chill tour. You have time to see the sights, take good photos, eat or shop a bit. Akiyoshido Caves were beautiful. Our guide, Jyo, was very friendly and gave us good tips on where to take the best photos and eat some good local specialties.

Our tour with Katie was an absolute dream! She is so incredibly kind and lovely, and she truly made our entire trip so special and memorable. She poured her heart into making sure we had the absolute best time, bringing us to breathtaking places like Shiraito Falls and Itoshima Beach. We felt so wonderfully taken care of the entire day. Thank you, Katie, for being such an amazing guide!

I highly recommend this tour. Our guide, Kevin, was excellent. He speaks English, Chinese, and Japanese. Luckily, he spoke English, as I don't understand Chinese. This route involves a long journey, and some spots are not accessible if you travel independently, so this day trip is essential to reach the shrine. The scenic views are absolutely beautiful; I highly recommend visiting. I think it's even more stunning than Hakodate. It would be even better if we could have stayed to see it at night.

Thanks to guide Bae Tae-kwon, I had the trip of a lifetime! He pointed out the best and most affordable restaurants at Karato Market, so I got to enjoy delicious food at places even locals line up for. He also showed us an efficient route from Tanga Market to the arcade and Kokura Castle, allowing us to make the most of our sightseeing. His easy and entertaining explanations of Dazaifu Tenmangu's historical background made it more than just a simple tour. Furthermore, he kindly assisted me with personal hotel matters, which was a huge help since I don't speak Japanese. Despite my initial worries about the rain, it turned out to be a wonderful trip, all thanks to guide Bae Tae-kwon. For anyone visiting Fukuoka, I highly recommend this tour!

What to know before visiting Shimonoseki

Quick snapshot of Shimonoseki and what draws visitors

Shimonoseki is a coastal city whose top bookings are for tours, with activity across the year but clear seasonal swings. Demand peaks in October and drops off notably in November, so the city alternates between busy autumn months and much quieter late-fall periods.

Best times to visit for prices and crowds

According to Klook booking data, October is the busiest month while November sees the lowest demand. Prices are highest in July and remain elevated into August, then drift down through autumn and reach their lowest around December. If you want smaller crowds and lower prices, aim for November–December; if you’re after the peak-season atmosphere, plan for October (and be prepared for higher prices in July–August). Note that demand peaks in October while prices peak earlier in midsummer, so crowd levels and cost don’t always move in lockstep.

Tips for travellers

Most travellers book about three weeks ahead on average, with some booking much earlier and last-minute options available within a few days. If your trip is flexible you can often book close to travel, but for travel in the busiest months it’s wise to plan and reserve activities a few weeks out. Use Klook to compare tour options and lock in popular slots once your dates are set.
