Great 4.0
Convenient Transportation: It takes about 15 minutes to walk from the train station to the hotel, which is a walkable distance. Breakfast: Perhaps because the hotel can accommodate many guests, the restaurant has two separate areas with identical food selections, making it convenient for guests. The variety of food is similar to what you'd find in typical three- or four-star hotels in Europe. Cleanliness: The room's cleanliness was acceptable. The bathroom was a bit small, but it clearly looked recently renovated and very clean. I'm not sure if the room had air conditioning, as I couldn't find a switch or remote. However, during my two-night stay, perhaps because the evening temperatures in the UK are still a bit cool, the room never felt stuffy.

Great 4.0
Clean & tidy hotel in a great location. Rooms a little dated, but reception undergoing a revamp. Breakfast good, but really busy at peak times.

Great 4.0
12 minute walk from King’s Cross station although it felt like a lifetime in this heatwave. Hotel doesn’t have air conditioning but they did provide a fan. Breakfast was ok, but no fried eggs but a ton of scrambled instead. Sausages weren’t the best and stay away from the orange juice, very weak. Apple juice was good though.

Fantastic 5.0
Although the lights weren't working upon check-in, the maintenance department followed up very quickly. Later, the circuit breaker tripped, which I believe is a local UK power load issue. Overall, the air conditioning was sufficient, it was clean, there was no musty smell, and the staff were proactive and enthusiastic.

More about London hotels

Staying in London: price spread and sweet spot

Staying in London shows a wide price gap between the most affordable economy options and top-tier luxury — roughly a fivefold difference in typical nightly rates. The best balance of comfort and value is the premium tier, which tends to offer the strongest middle ground for most travellers.

How the hotel classes stack up and who they suit

Economy rooms sit at the low end and are the most budget-friendly choice, suitable for travellers prioritising cost over extras. Standard properties move the offering up a notch in comfort and price, appealing to those wanting a bit more space or convenience without a large premium. Premium is the clear sweet spot and represents the best value tier; it’s a common pick for travellers wanting a comfortable stay without the very highest rates. The biggest step in price comes when moving from premium to luxury — that jump is the main decision point for anyone weighing mid-range comfort against a significantly more expensive luxury experience.

When travellers book and which months suit a budget trip

Rooms are typically reserved about 25 days in advance, so you don’t need to lock things in months early but booking a few weeks ahead is common practice. December is the priciest month while February is the cheapest, and February is the best period to aim for if your trip is driven primarily by budget concerns.
