Reviews
very amazing experience and the tour guide is nice and caring. the dry suit is easy to wear and can keep you warm & dry. I’ll recommend this activity!!!
It is highly recommended to put this into your itinerary when you come to Abashiri/Shiretoko area!! It was so fun to walk on the drift ice! The dry suit is not easy to wear and the guide is very patient in helping us and leading us the way to walk on drift ice throughout the whole tour!
What an incredible experience! The guide from Shinra was great; she went over safety and also did a fantastic job leading the group over the drift ice. We went out far and even found a spot where we could swim. She also took great pictures so I have wonderful memories to look back on. The dry suits keep you mostly warm and 100% DRY. If I go out there again I would do the drift ice walk again just because it was such a surreal thing to do. We went at 7am, curious how it differs during other times. Next time I would wear another layer of heat socks and see if wearing heated gloves under the suit is allowed.
the guide was super friendly and met us up at the Utoro Onsen Bus terminal on time. we even completed the tour on time to be back to Shari station!
I did it with guide Yuki. I don't know any Japanese, but they explained things in English so well that I had no trouble following along! It was so much fun, and I went alone, but they took really good pictures, and when I came out, I had a great time looking out in the water while looking for Clione. Even though it was late March, there were a lot of drift ice and the weather was so nice that I will never forget it!!
March 08, 2026. There are still many ice floes, and the temperature is -2 degrees Celsius. It's very enjoyable to play in the icy sea. Location: Shiretoko Utoro, Japan.
Being able to see drift ice is truly a great stroke of luck. It was a wonderful time with a kind guide.
Very special, but unfortunately every tour guide does it differently. I saw that the quarantine group could go on the ice as a group, but my tour guide only wanted to move around freely.
We went there in early March, and the ice had melted a little, but the scene was still stunning. I believe it will be more beautiful if you go there in February.
Very fun, great experience...
