Stroll along the oldest streets of Kyoto and learn about the lives of geishas
Take a walk down the three most famous geisha districts in Kyoto where you will pay a visit to establishments significant to the city's rich history. Stroll along the pathways of Gojyorakuen, once the most notorious red light district, before visiting Miyagawacho, known for geisha with talents for Japanese dance. The respectable geisha profession is often misrepresented - this tour aims to correct any misinformation. As you stroll the streets of Gion, your guide will explain all about what being a geisha means as you pass by boarding residences and entertainment houses. You may hear the faint tunes of geisha practising their musical skills or watch as a beautifully dressed geisha hurries over cobbled streets and ornate bridges to her next appointment. You'll also see the oldest Zen temple in Kyoto, also the birthplace of Japanese green tea, and a shrine with famous celebrities and geisha etched in the red posts.

Loved this tour. We got to learn so much about the geishas and their lives. None of the other cities we visited in Japan had the same feeling as the geisha districts of Kyoto. It really felt like stepping back in time walking around the small streets, visiting the temples, and learning more about the geishas. A great cultural tour of Kyoto for anyone who wants to learn more about Japan.
Visited Kyoto with my mother, a big Memoirs of a Geisha fan, and decided to do this tour. We both loved visiting all the Geisha districts and walking around the small streets. We learned so much about the lives of Geisha and my mom recognized some of the locations mentioned from the novel. Highly recommended for any fans of the novel!
My girlfriend really wanted to go on this tour because she loves the Memoirs of a Geisha movie, but I wasn't super enthused. When we finally starting walking around the districts though, it was such a great experience. Kyoto is so well preserved and it was such a delight to just walk around and soak in all the history. My girlfriend loved seeing all the locations from the movie and book, but I just really enjoyed taking in Kyoto itself. All in all, a great informative tour. I was pleasantly surprised.
