Experience the essence of Kansai in a single day, where classical elegance meets natural splendor! Your fulfilling adventure begins now.
- Stop 1: Katsuo-ji Temple Katsuo-ji Temple | The Secluded Temple of the God of Victory Over 3,000 Daruma dolls of various sizes reside within the temple grounds. You’ll find them under the eaves, on the stone steps, and among the maple trees. Their vermilion bodies create a striking visual contrast with the green moss, resembling “living totems of wishes.”
- Stop 2: Miyama Thatched Village Miyama Thatched Village | An Edo Period Scroll Spared by Time Fifty Gassho-style thatched-roof houses line the Miyama River, their roofs resembling hands clasped in prayer (sloping at 60°!). Built using the Kayabuki technique, the roofs require 500 people to replace them every 30 years, making them “living architectural fossils.”
- Stop 3: Arashiyama Arashiyama | The Heian Aristocracy’s Landscape Theater Tenryu-ji Temple’s Bamboo Grove Path—Sunlight filters through the hundred-meter-high bamboo canopy, and the swaying bamboo creates a soothing sound like Sanskrit chants. It was named one of the “Top Ten Magical Trails in the World” by Lonely Planet. The Sogenchi Garden of the World Heritage Site Tenryu-ji Temple borrows Mount Kameyama as a distant view and white sand as a sea of clouds. The fusion of the dry landscape and the pond-style garden embodies Ashikaga Takauji’s cosmological view in memory of Emperor Go-Daigo.
- From the Zen universe of a thousand red Daruma dolls in a mountain temple, immerse yourself in the Edo period scroll of Miyama's thatched-roof houses, and finally, find solace in the scenic sanctuary of Arashiyama's bamboo forest. This day trip is like opening a "prism" to Kansai, where ancient faith, pastoral poetry, and aristocratic elegance flow through the light and shadows, creating a timeless and ceremonial journey. This is one of our favorite Klook tours. Love how peaceful these places are—super calming, no crowds, just quiet moments to take it all in. The weather was really cold (exactly how we like it 🤍). It rained for a bit, but thankfully it stopped after a while and made everything feel even fresher. Honestly, the kind of day that feels slow in the best way—just exploring, appreciating the views, and enjoying each other’s company. Definitely one for the books. ✨
guide 王啓超 is very accomodating and nice. always share the meetup location to every stop. He make sure to point the attraction direction and food to try.
First, let me recommend our driver and guide for the day, Mr. Zhang Yanjin 👍👍👍 Mr. Zhang is very enthusiastic and attentive. During our free time, it suddenly rained, and he asked if we had brought umbrellas. Katsuoji Temple!! A secluded training hall for the god of victory... We arrived early, so there weren't many people - it was great for taking pictures! The Wagyu restaurant recommended by the guide was delicious... I'm in a great mood ❤️❤️ The sirloin Wagyu was so delicious - it had a beefy flavor and a grilled aroma. Delicious Wagyu without that annoying oily taste! Of course, I had to try the ordinary Kyoto-limited beer - it's all about the experience 🍻🍻
Decided to take this the last minute and did not regretted it. The driver is friendly and giving us tips on where to go and how to maximize the trip. The places are so beautiful. Although my concern is the time to explore each place is too short but it is still worth to book.
This itinerary is very fulfilling, and participating in it is a great choice. Katsuo-ji Temple is beautiful. We arrived early, and there weren't too many people, so it was very good. Miyama is a very serene place. We bought Miyama milk and ate delicious pudding. The Arashiyama area is also a very beautiful place. Our tour guide, Xiao Zhao, also recommended some worthwhile attractions to us. This day's itinerary was very satisfying!
Because I was traveling with family, I booked a Klook tour. I really wanted to visit Katsuo-ji Temple, but I was worried about the inconvenience of taking the bus. Plus, I was staying at Koko Hotel, and the pickup point was right around the corner. However, the flag was hard to find. On the day of the tour, there were many tour buses and a lot of people, so I searched for a long time. It turned out to be right at the designated meeting point they had posted, so I wasted a lot of time searching. So, if you can't find it, don't worry; just look carefully around the corner of the waiting point, and you won't spend too much time. The itinerary was quite rushed, with most of the time spent traveling. At Katsuo-ji Temple, you can quickly take photos at the Daruma wall and then walk around. However, you'll need to walk quickly to have enough time. Both Miyama and Arashiyama were just for quick sightseeing. If you want to explore thoroughly, I recommend dedicating a full day to each. The same goes for food; you can eat on the tour bus, so bring some easy-to-eat food like rice balls to avoid getting hungry. Because the schedule is so tight, there's no time to sit down and eat; you can only buy things and eat them on the bus. Overall, it was pretty good. You don't have to worry about rushing for transportation yourself, and there's a tour guide. You can sleep once you get on the bus. However, if you want to explore deeply, I still recommend planning a full-day trip.
The whole trip was amazing and suitable for bringing elders along. It happened to be the autumn foliage season, and the scenery along the way was beautiful. If you want to sleep, you can also rest well. The tour guide's introduction was also good, giving everyone rest time on the bus. Before arriving at the attractions, they would also briefly introduce information about that location. Thanks, Xiao Qin! 👍
Thankfully, almost everyone on the bus was someone I knew, with only two exceptions. Conveniently, everyone on the bus only spoke Chinese. At first, I couldn't find the tour guide and was worried about missing the bus since I didn't have their WeChat or phone number. Luckily, the driver showed up first. Both the driver and tour guide were cheerful and took great care of us passengers during the journey. Although the ride was long, we could rest on the bus. The only downside was that with three attractions to visit, it felt a bit rushed, and we didn't have enough time to explore thoroughly. Thank you to the tour guide for recommending delicious local restaurants and souvenirs! An awesome tour guide!!! Thank you, Chia-Ling!
The tour guide could tell us more local historical stories, and when we arrive and walk around together, tell us stories about related cultural festivals at each spot.
It was a great tour with our driver/guide NickLee who was very helpful thoughtful. He would provide us a narrative about the places that we are going highly recommend NickLee for future tours. Thank you
