What to expect
"Cultural Properties of Ancient Nara" UNESCO World Heritage Tour
- Katsuoji Daruma Wishing Tradition: Travelers write their wishes on a Daruma doll and paint one eye. Once the wish comes true, they paint the other eye and return it to the temple. This is a unique prayer custom of Katsuoji Temple.
- Kyoto’s Most Representative Bamboo Grove Path: The Arashiyama Bamboo Grove is about 400 meters long, with towering bamboo intertwined with sunlight, making it one of Kyoto’s most recognizable landscapes.
- Close Interaction with Nara’s Sacred Deer: Nara Park is home to over 1,200 free-roaming sika deer, which are designated as natural monuments. Travelers can purchase deer crackers and feed them by hand.
- World’s Largest Wooden Building: The Great Buddha Hall of Todai-ji Temple is the world’s largest wooden building, housing a bronze Great Buddha approximately 15 meters tall. It was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1998.

This was my favorite tour of my japan trip! The guide was very considerate and easy to talk to. He was quick to update, give facts, and answer any questions. A couple of tips: Katsuoji Temple - if youre going to get a daruma doll the line can be long so be prepared. I had just enough time to get the postcard stamped, few pictures and a daruma doll. Bamboo Forest - its super crowded. I recommend playing to enter the garden inside the garden next door and go to the bamboo in the back. The waterfall was beautiful and the reason I booked this specific tour (and katsuoji). There is a lot of walking so bring water, snacks and some good shoes!
It was a great tour, Marco was a good guide and the deers were so cute! Arashiyama was a bit crowded but you still get cute photos and my favorite was Katsuoji, they give you a postcard at the entrance you stamp a couple on the way on it and at the end of the trail you get a cute picture on your postcard it is a great souvenir idea 🩷
The trip was a lot of driving. I think the Bamboo forest was not necessary- or find one that is less crowded. Also the falls are beautiful but it was a steep walk down and up to the waterfall. It is quite self guided at all sites, which I didn’t mind.
A very beautiful tour, the guide was very friendly, knows the history of the temples well, and explained everything in several languages. We couldn't go to Minoo Falls because the weather was rainy, but we hope that the weather will allow us to see it on the next tour. Despite the rain, we had a very nice day, full of memories and delicious food. Thank you very much.
A total of 4 attractions made for a slightly packed itinerary, but we ended the day feeling relaxed despite the busyness. Special thanks to our guide, Marco, who provided us with a lot of information about the attractions and also taught us how to avoid tourist traps. Highly recommend this tour to others!!!
Katsuo-ji Temple is really a must-see, it's beautiful and photogenic; the road to Mino Waterfall is a bit steep, people with mobility issues may choose not to walk down; Arashiyama Bamboo Grove is also quite beautiful; the deer in Nara are so cute!
Chose this tour instead of others because of the Nara portion. LOVED IT! Was able to see many checkpoints in one day, which was very convenient for me. Alex was very knowledgeable and a great guide! Highly recommend!!!!!
Our tour guide Marco was very nice, explained everything in detail, and recommended great places to eat and drink at each attraction. Hope the boss gives him a raise to keep such a good employee! Walking down to and back up from Mino Falls was really tiring, and the local shops weren't open at that time. I suggest considering alternative attractions.
Great weather, a fulfilling journey, point-to-point itinerary, no need to worry about transportation, ample time at each attraction, a high-value itinerary.
A fun filled day with lots of adventure and experience! We leaned a wealth of information with our tour guide and he kept us on track!
Good to know
Due to shorter daylight hours in winter, the Minoh Falls will be closed for visits from 12/10 to 3/15.
