What to expect
[Jozankei Summer Lantern Festival]
Limited to the summer to autumn foliage season, the hot spring town and forest trails are illuminated with Japanese-style lanterns and other lights, creating a dreamy and romantic night scene. In October, you can also enjoy the colorful autumn foliage, experiencing Jozankei's unique autumn night charm.
- Jozankei Shrine is only open to guests staying at designated hotels. This tour does not include entry to the shrine; other Summer Lantern Festival exhibition areas are open for free viewing.
[Mount Yotei Spring Water Park]
Known as the "Home of Famous Water," the snowmelt from the mountain seeps underground and, after decades of nurturing, transforms into mineral-rich natural spring water that is clear, sweet, and flows year-round. Not only is the scenery beautiful here, but you can also feel the tranquil atmosphere of nature and Japanese tradition.
[Takahashi Farm]
Located at the foot of Mount Yotei, the environment is pristine, and dairy cows grow healthily on high-quality pasture. The farm manages everything from raw milk to finished products. The park features popular shops such as "Milk Kobo," "Yogurt Kobo," and "Baumkuchen Kobo," as well as the restaurant PRATIVO, which emphasizes "making vegetables taste better," and the pizzeria MANDRIANO, attached to the cheese factory, offering a rich selection of gourmet food.
[Lake Toya]
Meaning "Lake of Mountains" in Ainu, it was formed by volcanic eruptions. Although located in a cold region, it is a non-freezing lake, with different scenery throughout the four seasons: cherry blossoms in spring, fireworks in summer, picturesque autumn foliage, and snow cover in winter. The lake water remains clear all year round.
[Showa Shinzan]
A lava dome formed in 1943 due to earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, it still emits white smoke, showcasing the vitality of the volcano. Visitors can feed bear cubs at the bear ranch or take a cable car to the observation deck to overlook the magnificent crater, lava landscape, and the Pacific Ocean.
[Noboribetsu Jigokudani (Hell Valley)]
An explosion crater site approximately 450 meters long, it is the source of Noboribetsu Onsen, with 3,000 liters of spring water gushing out every minute. The valley has a strong sulfur smell, steaming hot air, barren rock walls, and echoing roars, making it feel as if one is in hell.
[Lake Shikotsu Ice Festival - Night Illumination (Winter Limited 1/30~2/23)]
Ice sculptures made from transparent lake water are magnificent and crystal clear during the day, and at night, they are adorned with brilliant lights, creating a dreamy ice and snow world.
[Snowmobile Experience]
Speed across the pure white snowfield, with the crisp cold wind on your face, and Lake Toya and distant volcanoes coming into view. The roaring engine and flying snowflakes intertwine, bringing the thrill of speed and freedom. Riding along the lake, the blue sky, white snow, lake scenery, and volcanoes form a magnificent winter-limited scroll of Hokkaido, experiencing a snow country adventure that combines passion and romance.

Reviews
I recently took this one-day tour to Lake Toya and Lake Shikotsu, and it was absolutely worth the money. It is a very well-paced itinerary that allowed us to see several of Hokkaido’s most beautiful natural landmarks within a single day without feeling overly rushed. Our guide, Xixi, was fantastic. She was incredibly knowledgeable and went above and beyond to make the trip memorable. Not only did she provide great commentary on the sights we visited, but she also shared a wealth of "insider" recommendations for other locations to visit in Hokkaido and pointed us toward the "best in category" restaurants for local food.
The tour was great and well-organized. Special thanks must be given to the tour guide Sakura, who is helpful and friendly. The snow-motorbike (optional activity) was thrilling and memorable! Must-try if it is available!
This day trip, covering Lake Shikotsu, Jigokudani (Hell Valley), Showa-shinzan, and Lake Toya, was perfect for us as we wanted to see as much as possible. Our guide, Kevin, mentioned he only started in November, but his meticulous pre-trip reminders, travel information and itinerary explanations, time management, restaurant recommendations, and enthusiastic help with taking photos and answering all our questions, led us to highly commend his service. The driver's skills were excellent and smooth, making the entire journey very comfortable. We are very grateful and thoroughly enjoyed this day tour.
We had a wonderful time on the tour with Xixi, visiting Shikotsu, Mt. Usu, Lake Toya, and Hell Valley. Everything was well-organized, and the pacing was just right—enough time to enjoy each stop without feeling rushed. Xixi shared helpful insights along the way, which made the experience more meaningful and engaging. She was friendly, attentive, and made sure everyone was comfortable throughout the trip. From coordinating logistics smoothly to pointing out great photo spots, Xixi made the whole day easy and enjoyable. Highly recommend this tour with her if you’re looking for a seamless and memorable experience.
A must tour to experience the serenity of lake with family, bear ranch and a park with nice lakeview.Highly recommended!
Overall, everything was worth the visit. It was less crowded since these spots were underrated. Although in Lake Shikotsu we had to slide on steep snow since the stairway was covered with snow. the path in Noboribetsu was slippery also at that time. Our tourguide (Arafat) made the tour very exciting and fun. He had so much energy and shared a lot of informations. He is by far the best tour guide we've encountered in Japan.
This was a super comfortable trip, I felt refreshed and invigorated! The lake was crystal clear, and seagulls flew around the boat. Mount Yotei truly lives up to its nickname as "Little Mount Fuji"—it was absolutely beautiful! So happy.
This tour efficiently covers many attractions between Sapporo and Lake Toya. If it's your first time in Sapporo and you want a hassle-free trip, I recommend this tour. Although the time spent at some attractions isn't long, I happened to have a particularly enthusiastic guide this time, which kept my spirits high throughout the entire trip and made it a deep and immersive experience. Finally, there was also a snowmobile activity, which added a lot of fun.
The scenery of Lake Shikotsu and Lake Toya on this trip was truly beautiful, healing, and impressive! It's a pity that the time spent was too short. I suggest appropriately reducing the time spent at Showa Shinzan, the Bear Park, the Mount Usu Ropeway, and Noboribetsu Jigokudani to make the itinerary even more perfect. The tour guide was very professional, with a very considerate service attitude, and respected the opinions of the group members during the trip, making appropriate flexible adjustments.
Huge day out in Hokkaido with wonderful commentary and assistance from our charismatic guide Gilbert who transitioned seamlessly between English, Chinese and Japanese. itinerary well explained with plenty of comfort spots. Also thanks to our driver who was called in as a replacement last minute on a public holiday and drive us around all day in difficult conditions. great day out! 本当にありがとうございました
