What to expect
Centrally located and surrounded by fertile plains, mountains, rivers, and the sea, it is easy to understand why Nagoya is known as “the Heart of Japan.” This castle city attracted samurai and craftsmen alike and, later, wealthy merchants and innovative leaders of industry. Today, Nagoya has cemented itself as Japan’s center of industry and is home to manufacturing giants such as Toyota, Brother, Noritake, Ibanez, Buffalo, and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.
This tour will take you into several historical estates and private gardens of these titans of industry. Very happy with this experience. I got a real sense of the authentic side of Japan and it was incredibly entertaining to learn so much about Nagoya castle and it’s legacy. My tour guide, Kim, was absolutely fantastic. She did a fantastic job of looking after me and explained background stories extremely well, especially the legacy of the Toyoda family in the Taisho-era. The locals are such kindhearted, wonderful people too. The walk around the Tokugawa-en garden was the cherry on top. I was lucky enough to experience this on a bright sunny day with the autumn leaves in full bloom. Very relaxing and such a peaceful experience. Over the moon with this experience. Definitely give this a try if you are in Nagoya and want to dive in into the history of this underrated city. P.s, give the matcha tea a try!
Happy to join the trip with Kim and Rebecca; trip is fantastic and informational, as explained and leaded by them. There are quite a little of walking thru the culture paths so be prepared for walking. Kim really takes care and told stories regarding these historic sites along the way, which is well done!
