This is the second place I visited after Baluarte de San Diego. The voucher exchange process was quick and easy; I just showed the voucher to the officer near the ticket sales. Fort Santiago is a historic fortress in Intramuros, Manila, Philippines, built by the Spanish in 1571, and has witnessed various important events in Philippine history, especially those related to the struggle for independence. This fort is famous as the last prison for the Philippine national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal, before his execution in 1896.
We had an exciting and memorable day during today's visit at Fort Santiago in Intramuros Manila. The entrance fee of 75.00 Php pesos is quite justifiable considering the knowledge and enjoyment we experience around the premises with lots of Philippine history and culture, especially about our National hero Jose Rizal's biography and personal items, not to mention his almost real depiction of his solitary confinement in his prison cell (Silid Pagnilay) and trial cell (Silid Paglitis). Everyone with the time and privilege to visit this place surely will love and adore the old prison cells and walkways around the walled city with cannons and the incredible view of the Pasig river on its north side pathway.
It was a spontaneous evening when I decided to go in to make my MNL trip worthwhile. No regrets, it was so peaceful, no crowds, only me and the local cats having a fun tour. The kitties accompanied me everywhere I go, and of course I felt honored. I saw the area where they put cardboard boxes, drinking water fountain, & food bowls! I hope these are well maintained as well, so much compassion for our beloved felines. Anyway, I love the vibe of the place, I felt safe even on the less lit areas where I traverse at. I value history even if I don’t know much or may have forgotten some knowledge from school days. It’s always a love-hate relationship between what happened before and now. So much things has changed but this place remains the same like how it should be. Also, kudos to the people who worked extra mile to make the place clean, safe, &, more importantly preserved the structures and buildings that’s been a great evidence of the past. Happy 127th Independence Day my fellow Filipino
Booked the Intramuros Pass through Klook and it was totally worth it! I got to visit Fort Santiago, Casa Manila, and Baluarte de San Diego all in one day without the hassle of buying separate tickets. Everything was smooth and well-organized. The historical sites were beautifully preserved and very informative.
Fort Santiago larut malam terasa sangat berbeda!
