We did the glacier hike at Fláajökull with Arctic Adventures and it was amazing! Our guide Neil was super knowledgeable, funny, and made the whole experience feel really safe while still adventurous. He explained so much about the glacier and pointed out cool details that I never would’ve noticed on my own. The pace was just right—enough time to enjoy the views, take photos, and really soak it all in without feeling rushed. Walking on the glacier itself was surreal, with the crevasses and blue ice around us… definitely a highlight of my trip to Iceland.

Such an amazing experience. The guide is friendly, helpful and has a lot of information to tell. We enjoyed the activity so much. The route is easy even elderly can join the tour. (healthy ones, anyway) However this tour is kind of Glacier Hike 101. So we did not go that far into the glacier due to time limit.

We were incredibly lucky that our tour could proceed the day after many others were cancelled due to strong winds. If you don't want to rent shoes, you can wear slightly high-top shoes, which helps the crampons stay securely on your feet. If the weather is good on the day, you don't need to wear too many layers underneath, as you'll sweat during the climb, but a windproof jacket is essential. After getting geared up, we took a 15-minute bus ride to our destination. From there, it was about an hour's walk to reach the glacier itself. Our guide was very professional, dividing us into groups for those who wanted to walk faster and those who preferred a more leisurely sightseeing pace. We chose the sightseeing group. Throughout the journey, there were many opportunities to stop and take photos. The guide was also very attentive to everyone's condition; if she noticed you were falling behind, she would invite you to walk beside her. Along the way, she introduced this glacier as the largest in all of Europe, and we were fortunate enough to have the chance to walk on it. She even led us to drink or collect glacier water, which, surprisingly, had no taste (it wasn't sweet). Our tour was 5 hours long and didn't go to the very top. If you want to climb higher to see the ice pillars, you need to join the 6-hour tour. However, after hearing from participants, it's apparently extremely tiring, making your legs feel numb, so it's recommended for those with more stamina. The 5-hour sightseeing tour is more relaxed, with plenty of photo and rest opportunities, so overall it's not too strenuous. We recommend it for seniors or anyone looking for a relaxed experience with lots of photo opportunities.

Everything was clearly explained and prepared by the guides before we boarded the bus to embark on the hike. Each person gets a harness, helmet, crampon, and ice pick after they checked that you have the right pants and shoes. Our large group was split into smaller groups of about 12 people and Thomas was our guide. As you hike, you will feel warmer so definitely wear lesser layers. One of my friends fell and injured his arm during the descent. Thomas was super quick to respond and admister first aid. He radioed the news through his walkie talkie and 2 other guides quickly appeared to help my friend and to lead the rest of my group down the glacier. All of them were super professional and calm despite what happened. We are very thankful for their quick thinking and we definitely felt that my friend, and the rest of us in the group, were in safe hands. Also, a big thank you to the female doctor who extended her expertise to assist my friend even though she was with her family on a tour!

Equipment provided: harness, crampons, ice axe, helmet Guide: Josh, a geologist, explained how the glacial lagoon was formed and how quickly the glacier is retreating. He also demonstrated how to use crampons and shared safety precautions, humorously warning us not to drop our phones into the ice crevices and mentioning that the melted glacier water is drinkable. He was very humorous and engaging. Itinerary: Hiking difficulty: The hiking difficulty was not high. I think it could have been more challenging, or perhaps some blue ice caves could have been arranged. The guide had his considerations, so I won't say more. Scenery: Scenery that cannot be seen in low-latitude countries, highly recommended.

Our guide was incredibly passionate about this job! Throughout the entire process, safety was emphasized, allowing everyone to feel at ease and fully enjoy the beauty of the glacier. A small incident occurred when we were on the bus heading back; due to heavy snow and ice, the bus couldn't make it up a slope and kept sliding backward. The guide joked that it was like a roller coaster, and everyone raised their hands and cheered, having a great time! In the end, the driver and guide personally shoveled snow and chipped ice to help us return to the camp safely. The guide's humor, singing, and even his impression of Manny from Ice Age truly made it an unforgettable experience for me. Highly recommended!

Before setting off, there will be a detailed explanation of which peak we are going to. We are going to Peak 6! We will check if everyone's hiking boots are suitable for climbing the glacier. Among the group, only my hiking boots didn't need to be changed. I bought a pair of snow boots from Decathlon, and the hardness of the toe should be sufficient! There are also pictures in the email showing which shoes are not suitable! We had a very handsome guide, but he didn't give us much time to take photos. It's understandable that when you finally get to a glacier, you'd want to take more pictures. The guide kept rushing us to walk faster 😅 I even had to check if he was looking before taking out my camera 😅 There were over twenty people in our group, divided into 2 teams. The guide for the other team gave their group more experiences, like making a few ice steps for everyone to try climbing up with ice axes. We, on the other hand, were just rushed along, go go go 😅 They should have given us more time to take photos! By the way, I also bought one of their homemade hats!
