We didn’t get to experience Hanoi’s famous Train Street, but we did get to ride the actual train that passes through it—and honestly, it was an experience of its own. We were lucky to have our cabin all to ourselves, which made us feel like VIPs throughout the journey. Before boarding, we also enjoyed access to the Sapa Lounge, where we were able to freshen up with a shower. The trip from Sapa to Hanoi was peaceful, comfortable, and relaxing. Although the train takes longer than a sleeper bus or limousine, it’s a great option if you have extra time and prioritize better rest, comfort, and safety. Overall, I highly recommend taking the train, especially if you want a more relaxing and enjoyable travel experience.

After one night in Sapa, we went to Lao Cai and took an overnight train from Lao Cai to Hanoi Station! We arrived in Lao Cai about 1 hour and 30 minutes before departure, had our luggage stored, got our tickets, and relaxed at a nearby cafe! I was a bit worried if I could sleep on my first overnight train, but I slept so well, it might have been the best sleep I had during my trip to Vietnam! 🚂 I was unsure which train to choose, but I went with Chapa Express because of its good reviews, and it was absolutely the right choice! I think many people wonder which train to take, but it seems that only the style of the train varies by carriage! However, Chapa was quite clean! The toilet, which I was concerned about, was very clean!! Also, Chapa normally has a VIP lounge where we were supposed to wait, but unfortunately, it was under renovation in June 2025 and couldn't be used! (I had planned to take a shower 😭) Since we were two women, we secured all four berths just in case! The room is quite small, so securing all four berths is safer! Other female backpackers did the same! We received bananas, a snack similar to 'Yuki no Yado' crackers, water, and amenities like a toothbrush and comb! We arrived around 5:45 AM! The staff woke us up, but mornings can be a bit hectic, haha. Overall, it was a very satisfying overnight train experience!! If you're going to Sapa, I highly recommend taking the overnight train either on your way there or back! ✨ I'm sure you'll have a wonderful trip! 🤩

Confortável viagem noturna — ótima experiência!” Pegamos a cabine VIP de 2 beliches do Chapa Express de Hanói para Sapa e realmente gostamos. A cabine estava limpa, bem decorada e as camas eram surpreendentemente confortáveis. Recebemos água engarrafada, escovas de dente e até alguns lanches. O ar-condicionado funcionou bem, talvez um pouco frio, mas cobertores foram fornecidos. O trem partiu no horário e chegou cedo pela manhã em Lao Cai, onde um micro-ônibus nos pegou para Sapa. Sim, o trem balança e chacoalha um pouco, mas isso faz parte do charme! Dormimos melhor do que o esperado. Altamente recomendado se você quiser economizar uma noite de hotel e viajar enquanto dorme.

The train check-in counter is on the second floor, to the left of the station lobby. There's a lounge inside where you can rest after checking in. You can board the train approximately 40 minutes before departure. I booked a double room for two, which had one large bed and came with water bottles, bananas, snacks, a comb, toothpaste and toothbrush, earplugs, and tissues. The carriage environment was very clean, and the air conditioning was strong. Each carriage had a toilet and a sink, but no shower facilities. In the morning, when the train was approaching the station, staff would knock on the door to notify passengers. If you need additional food or coffee, there's an extra charge. Overall, the experience was very good, though the train swayed and was quite noisy throughout the journey, making it difficult to sleep. Additionally, it was very convenient to purchase a transfer from the station to Sapa town at the same time, so you don't have to worry about being overcharged by drivers outside. Once you arrive at the station, just walk to the station entrance, and you'll see a driver holding a sign with your name on it, waiting for everyone to board together.

The staff were very friendly and welcoming. They served us tea and some snacks while we waited for our train. When it was time to board, the staff guided us all the way to the platform and to our cabin. After we settled in, they checked again to make sure we had everything we needed. Overall, we had a very pleasant and comfortable journey. Highly recommended!

A trip to Sapa definitely calls for a sleeper train experience! VicSapa has a partner lounge right next to the train station. We arrived in Lao Cai city at noon for the 9:30 PM train. The staff were still cleaning but warmly welcomed us in to rest and store our luggage. There are free shower rooms with toiletries provided, so you can freshen up after a day of activities before boarding the train comfortably. Around 8:30 PM, the staff will escort you to Lao Cai station for boarding. The train's interior is charmingly antique, with complimentary food and drinking water. After departure, a staff member will push a cart selling items. The air conditioning is cool, and the beds are comfortable for a good night's sleep, allowing you to sleep soundly until morning!

The railway station and the Chapa Lounge are easy to locate. The staff are friendly, and regarding the lounge – the VIP Lounge requires payment, while the Waiting Lounge does not. If sharing a 4-sleeper, I preferred the lower berth because the top berth is really cold as the AC blows from above. Also, if you're 6ft & above or large-sized, the bed would be a bit too short & narrow for you. Furthermore, regarding noise, YES, it is super loud. Mine felt like someone was banging the door right next to me all night, and my wall was shaking. An eye mask is a must if you can't sleep with lights. The bed is soft and clean, with no smell. Toilets are clean and suitable for light use only; don't expect to take a bath on the train. The charging pod works, but due to the train's shaking, the socket comes off easily, so it's best to charge your gadgets beforehand. As I exited the train, the shuttle service person was already waiting for me with my name, so it is very convenient. Overall, it is for the experience.

VicSapa is een uitstekende keuze, met schone kamers en toiletten. De chauffeur van het busje haalde ons op in Sapa en bracht ons naar Lao Cai, wat bijna een uur duurde. Daarna verbleven we ongeveer 2,5 uur in de VicSapa Lounge. Ze hebben een restaurant met lekker eten, evenals badkamers en doucheruimtes waar je je kunt opfrissen voordat je de trein instapt. De lounge is gunstig gelegen, direct tegenover het treinstation. Ik voelde me eerst een beetje duizelig in de trein, en het kan een beetje lawaaierig zijn, maar je went er uiteindelijk aan. Ik raad dit aan als je liever ligt tijdens de terugreis naar Hanoi. Snacks, water, toiletartikelen, schone kussens en dekens zijn aanwezig, en ze verkopen ook extra snacks tijdens de rit. Houd er wel rekening mee dat de bedden en cabines vrij klein en smal zijn. Over het algemeen is het een comfortabele en gemakkelijke ervaring.
