It is one of the most beautiful temples in all of Japan, and in this season with clear days, the foliage is fantastic, the colors are a marvel. As the Japanese proverb says: "Don't say 'marvelous' until you've seen Nikko." I recommend buying your ticket in advance to avoid potential queues.

First, I went to Nikko Station to get the tickets. The process was very smooth; after they verified my information, they immediately issued the tickets. It's about a 10-minute drive from Nikko Station to Toshogu Shrine. The shrine is resplendent and magnificent, making one marvel at the architecture of yesteryear.

First, exchange your ticket at the station's service counter, so you don't have to queue on-site. It's definitely worth buying, as it saves a lot of time. The Treasure Museum's collection is decent, and you can see it all quite quickly. Toshogu Shrine is very crowded and requires more time to explore. There are audio guides available for purchase at the entrance, three for 1000 yen, which I think is not expensive.

Amazing! Learning and seeing the shrine and its history made me have a better appreciation for Japan, its culture and people. Even though it's a 2-hour train ride, it was worth the visit because of this.

Remember to exchange your tickets at Tobu Nikko Station first. The ticket office at Toshogu Shrine is often crowded, so this can save you a lot of time. Yomeimon Gate is a national treasure of Japan, and the Sleeping Cat, the Three Wise Monkeys, and the Carved Elephant are all not to be missed.
