We booked this 1-day Kaohsiung Fun Pass for a last-minute, spontaneous day trip. We didn’t have time to reserve any day tours or private drivers, so this pass ended up being incredibly handy! It is completely digital and activated through the Taiwan Fun Pass app. It is super convenient because you just use the app's QR code to hop on buses and trains, and to get easy access into the tourist spots. The app is also really helpful because it gives you a full list of the available attractions so you know exactly what your options are for the day. To be completely honest, if you aren't planning to pack your schedule and use the pass to its fullest, it might be just as cost-effective to DIY and pay at the counter. But if you value convenience and want to avoid the hassle of buying individual tickets or fumbling for commute fares, this is definitely worth it. It’s so nice to just pull up the QR code and go!
For your personal itinerary, I recommend a DIY chess cake making experience in the morning (reservations required in advance). If driving, you can park near the Chess Cake Cultural Center on Zuoying Xialu (metered parking at 22.6835120, 120.2932941). Afterwards, you can explore the Lotus Pond area. After lunch, visit the Li Porcelain Art Museum, where your admission ticket can be used to offset parking fees. In the afternoon, head to Pier-2 Art Center to exchange for dragon and tiger couple cups, enjoy some SunnyHills pineapple cakes, see the Christmas trees at Warehouse No. 2 and the Pop Music Center, and explore the entire Pier-2 area (you can take the light rail; most street parking on Gongyuan Road is metered from Monday to Thursday). Finally, take a gondola ride along the Love River. If you still have energy, you can visit Central Park to see the Christmas tree. Driving is more convenient for the Chess Cake Cultural Center and Li Porcelain Art Museum, as taking the MRT might be a bit more complicated. However, a single ticket to the Li Porcelain Art Museum alone costs $350, so the Kaohsiung Fun Pass, which is currently buy-one-get-one-free for $780, is a very cost-effective option.
worth it for us, because we planned our itinerary to use it to the max. Since we only have 48-hours for the unlimited transportation, we decided to plan most of it on the first two days. DAY 1: aviation education exhibition hall; DAY 2: pier 2 day; DAY 3: sunfong temple facilities: my brother uses a wheelchair and most of the transportation we used & facilities we went to can cater him EXCEPT sunfong temple.
The Kaohsiung Fun Pass is a great deal, offering free rides on the MRT and Light Rail for one day. I took the Love River cruise, which included a guided tour, and saw Ultraman. For lunch, I went to Wave Restaurant; luckily, there were still seats available when I booked on the same day. The food was quite delicious, and the service was excellent. Afterwards, I visited Jingyuan Leisure Farm to see the animals, which were in good condition, though the park was a bit small. You can watch planes take off and land there, but unfortunately, there's a $100 surcharge during Chinese New Year.
Highly recommend this for DIY travelers! The 2-day unlimited ride pass is very high value. We spent one day exploring the creative warehouses at Pier-2 and the next day enjoying the seafood and coastal views at Cijin Island. It’s very easy to use—you just scan and go. It saved us both time and money. Pro-tip: Use it for the Light Rail to get the best views of the harbor!
Kaohsiung citizens as one-day tourists: 1. The Li Porcelain Museum is truly wonderful, with exquisite exhibits. 2. Jingyuan has quite a few animals, but it's a shame that the area for viewing planes is overgrown with weeds and full of mosquitoes, and the drinks aren't good, which is a bit of a pity. 3. The yacht tour around Kaohsiung Port offers rich commentary and is worth experiencing.
Being able to freely take buses, MRT, light rail, and coaches within 48 hours is incredibly convenient. Our itinerary included a boat ride on the Love River, DIY chess cake making, a ferry ride, eating ice cream, and afternoon tea at a restaurant. All the partner establishments were excellent, making it truly great value for money.
The buy-one-get-one-free offer is incredibly cost-effective. Kaohsiung's transportation is smooth and unhindered, with the MRT, light rail, and buses all included, as well as round-trip ferry tickets to Cijin. You can visit all 5 attractions in 3 days, and there are souvenirs too – super awesome! Each FunPass has a QR code that needs to be converted and used within the app, so a data connection is required. Attraction tickets and souvenirs also need to be redeemed by scanning a QR code in the app.
