We booked three day tours in Aomori: P1-Oirase Stream & Hakkoda Mountains; P2-Takayama Inari Shrine; P3-Tanesashi Coast. PLAN1 - The Oirase Stream, Hakkoda Mountains, and Lake Towada route was a fantastic day trip. Although the summit of Hakkoda Mountain was closed due to strong winds, and we could only stay for 5 to 10 minutes with no view due to heavy fog... the weather didn't cooperate! The Oirase Stream and Lake Towada are incredibly beautiful, and I highly recommend this day trip. We left Lake Towada to stay overnight at the Prince Hotel by the lake, and the next day, we walked along the lakeside back to Lake Towada to catch the JR bus back to Aomori, which cost ¥3480. I feel this day trip offers excellent value for money.
I was the only guest on the trip as the other two guests suddenly cancelled their plans. Luckily, the guide, Narita-san, was incredibly caring and helpful throughout the entire day's journey. For example, he planned every sightseeing spot considering the weather, and also explained everything in detail using a phone translator. His recommended ice cream (shijimi clam) was delicious 😛 The views that day were magnificent, especially at Cape Tappi! Thanks for everything, Narita-san!
Mr. Fujii, our driver, was very conscientious and responsible, good at communication, and skilled in driving. He patiently shared information with us. The friends in our small group were also very harmonious and friendly. Mr. Fujii would carefully remind us about icy or deeply snow-covered roads, and fellow group members also helped each other. We were very lucky that when we arrived at Mount Hakkoda, there weren't many people, so the waiting time for the ropeway was very short. The scenery was indeed beautiful, and it was also very cold. The night before, it had been raining and sleeting in Aomori, and we had prepared for the possibility of the ropeway being closed and our itinerary changing. However, we were very fortunate to have a bright, sunny day the next day. During our Oirase Stream sightseeing, Mr. Fujii also used a translator to tell us the differences in the scenery under various conditions. Finally, catching a stunning sunset on the sleepy return journey was an unforgettable experience (he even made a heart shape with his hands when I asked him to, haha). Klook's one-day tours are truly high quality, and the coordination is very smooth. I have already purchased tours in both Japan and Korea, and all have been excellent and satisfying. Highly recommended.
Amazing day! Driver was excellent, very communicative (he used a translator) and pleasant. Due to weather we deviated to the secondary itinerary but was still an amazing experience and fantastic day! We were lucky enough to see the edge of Hokkaido when the weather improved a little. Favorite place was the Inari shrine.
Outstanding service from start to finish! Our driver, Mr 三上 was punctual, professional, and incredibly courteous. He offered great local tips and drove very safely throughout our journey. We felt completely taken care of. Five star service is not enough to express our gratitude.
I joined this tour in early January, and there were 6 participants that day. It was snowing heavily in Aomori at that time, and I was very glad I joined the tour instead of driving myself in the snow, as the roads were covered in thick snow. In the morning, the Japanese driver was waiting for everyone at the station on time, and then we all set off for Mount Hakkoda. It was very windy that day, but fortunately, the Hakkoda Ropeway was operating (it had been closed a few days prior). Although we could only see the closest frost-covered trees due to the strong winds and snow at the summit, we did get to see them. Next, the driver took us towards the Oirase Gorge, stopping at Sukayu Onsen along the way for us to take photos. At Oirase Gorge, we stopped at Kumoi no Taki waterfall and saw the frozen small waterfall. Afterwards, we went to a restaurant by Lake Towada for a self-paid lunch. The simple Japanese lunch was decent and not too expensive. After the meal, we had enough time to walk along Lake Towada on our own. Finally, before returning to Sendai, the Japanese driver took us to visit a shrine, explaining the way to worship with simple English and body language. He was truly dedicated to explaining things to us. Overall, this was a good one-day tour. It allowed us to easily visit the main tourist attractions.
The bus departed conveniently from Aomori Station West Exit, with the guides ready to receive us. It was more of a maxi-cab than a bus, which made our journey feel much more personal than it would have felt like a tour group. The guide-driver was more than accommodating and used Google Translate to translate his instructions and comments about the places from Japanese to English. The locations we visited – Hakkoda Ropeway, Oirase Gorge, and Lake Towada – were far from the city center, so this was a truly worthwhile trip for us.
First time participating in a Klook local tour – the results: 1. Hakkoda Ropeway: The day before, there was heavy snow on the mountain, and on the day of the tour, it rained heavily, so the ropeway was suspended 😅. We could only go to the ropeway station to use the restroom and then leave. We then went to Jogakura Bridge, where we managed to admire what should have been beautiful autumn leaves amidst strong winds and heavy rain. 2. Oirase Stream: After taking photos of the autumn leaves at Oirase Stream Park in front of Hoshino Resort, we drove to two scenic spot entrances only to find the roads blocked. We were told that due to landslides, the entire section was closed to people and vehicles that day 😅. Indeed, the entire stream along the way had turned into a turbulent yellow river, with very rapid and dangerous-looking water. 3. Lake Towada: The wind and waves were too strong, so the cruise was suspended 😅. We braved the rain to visit Towada Shrine and then had lunch. This time, all three planned activities for the day tour were canceled. Fortunately, the local tour group still tried their best to take us to non-scheduled attractions, where we saw very beautiful autumn leaves. They took us to Jogakura Bridge, Lake Towada Observatory, the area around Nakano Momiji Mountain, and Nakano Shrine. The service was quite good.
