Our instructor Hana made our tea ceremony a very memorable one. She taught us not only about the ritual of the tea ceremony, but also to be present in the moment. I found several tea ceremony experiences on Klook, and after much deliberation, I chose this one. The price difference was only a few tens of yuan, but this place's pictures and reviews seemed very professional, and the staff's attitude was very friendly. I arrived about 20 minutes early, thinking I'd have to wait until the exact time like at restaurants, but it turns out you can enter and wait if you arrive early. The shop manager was very polite, warm, and friendly. She greeted us first. I was the first tea ceremony participant to arrive, and she confirmed if I was there for the tea ceremony. I said yes, and she told me I could sit and wait. It was raining outside, and she noticed my raincoat was wet, so she even got a plastic bag for it. I returned it to her when I left. The shop seems to be half clothing store and half tea ceremony experience, also selling tea bowls and traditional crafts. **Environment:** It's on the first floor, easy to spot, with a sign that says "aeru gojo." The decor is traditional Japanese, very clean, compact, and cozy. **Experience:** The staff paid attention to every guest; even though I came alone, I wasn't overlooked. We started with an icebreaker, introducing ourselves and where we were from, then sharing our highlights in Japan. Friends from various countries, including Thailand, Ireland, Mexico, and Hong Kong, shared their experiences. Then we watched the manager's tea ceremony performance. Afterward, she invited questions. I asked why she looked at the tea bowl from left to right. It turns out each tea bowl has a "face." Before drinking, you face it towards yourself, then turn it left while drinking, and turn it back when finished. This is part of the tea ceremony art, and after drinking, you're supposed to observe your tea bowl, which is said to be a sign of respect for the artist who made it. Someone also asked if tea bowls and rice bowls are the same. The manager found it an interesting question and patiently explained that tea bowls are often more intricately made by artists, so they are different. The overall process is simple; you just follow along. The staff also points out some small details, which I won't reveal here. I booked through Klook, but the price seemed to fluctuate by about 2 yuan. My first purchase was 215, then I canceled and rebooked for 213, and when I checked again that day, it was 212. However, you need to book a time in advance, so I didn't bother changing it again. Overall, I highly recommend it. The experience was great. Even with broken English, it's fine. For people who don't know each other, understanding a little is good; it's like listening practice. The manager's English is very standard, with no Japanese accent – excellent! The manager mentioned that traditional culture is slowly disappearing, and she hopes to preserve it through this shop.

Incredible experience with Miky; she simply turns everything into a beautiful ritual and perfectly explains the 'why' behind things. A very good experience for a tea ceremony, she makes time fly by, and you can ask all your questions and she will answer them. 100% recommendable.

My husband and I enjoyed this experience. It was a simple experience which taught us the traditions around tea ceremonies and Japanese culture. It is challenging to sit on the tatami mat for an hour, but the host was very understanding and made us feel very comfortable. It's a great opportunity to ask questions about Japanese culture as well. I learned a lot from asking questions.

We were later trying to find the place, we came in the middle of the class yet the host is patient enough to allow us to join. We had a great time learning about the traditional tea ceremony with 100 year old machiya.🥰

Miki was an amazing hostess, showing us the proper mannerisms of a traditional tea ceremony. She was so personable and treated us like family! I would highly recommend this experience if you are in Kyoto. And if you want to practice your beginner-level Japanese, Miki was very encouraging when I practiced with her.

Aunque en Singapur siempre me sirven Matcha en mi spa, quiero conocer todo el proceso de la apreciación del té Matchiya y lo que implica. El sensei me explicó cómo sentarme, que el cuenco tiene una cara y cómo batir el polvo con el agua caliente en movimientos cortos, de arriba abajo. Después de beber, hay que dejar el cuenco y mirar ambos lados del cuenco y hacer una reverencia. Los dulces se toman después del matcha o uno antes de beber y otro después de beber. Disfrute de la agradable sesión de 40 minutos.

Lovely tea ceremony. The host very nicely explained the tradition behind the tea ceremony and we had a great experience. There is a chance to buy matcha as well. Would recommend!

The tether was an spectacular woman with so much patience and love for what she does. She will answer all your questions and is a good-hearted person.
