Fantastic 5.0
Five-star review! Our tour guide, Hugo Macedo, was absolutely fantastic! I highly recommend this day trip! Sintra and Pena Palace are breathtaking. Although the uphill climbs and queues made the timing a bit tight, and the hot weather added to the rush, the rest of the trip was perfect. Our guide, Hugo Macedo, was truly the heart and soul of the entire journey. He was not only professional but also incredibly humorous and engaging, ensuring there was never a dull moment. The cutest part was his immense enthusiasm for Taiwanese people; he kept referring to Taiwan as the "Treasure Island of Formosa" throughout the trip 😂, which was very memorable. Beautiful sights, an excellent guide, and incredible value for money – I highly recommend everyone join this tour!

Joao was an amazing guide and equally amazing guy. He helped with all our questions, queries and little anecdotes about every place we visited. It was really a great experience, I would highly recommend if you want to fit Sintra and Cascais in one day and not feel rushed.

Fantastic 5.0
Fabulous trip up to the Moorish Castle and one of the highest points in Sintra. Lovely view. We walked up from the historic centre with younger children which took about 50 minutes but they really enjoyed the adventure (although could be a bit far to walk for some - buses, tuk tuk and taxis on offer if not). Highly recommend!

Fantastic 5.0
Our guides, Ricardo and Maria, were very talkative and knowledgeable. I was in Maria's group, and she was able to bring some of Portugal's literary spirit into the tour, allowing us to not only visit places but also engage in a deeper dialogue with the inner meaning and the scenery before us. Thank you for their arrangements. The last stop was Cabo da Roca, which would take a long time to reach by public transport. I highly recommend walking a bit faster and joining a day tour instead.

What to know before visiting Sintra

Quick Sintra overview for curious travellers

Sintra is a romantic getaway where Tours, Historical sites and Parks & gardens dominate visitor activity. Demand peaks in June and falls sharply in December, so the year has a pronounced high season and quieter winter months.

Best months to visit and what to expect on price

Klook booking data show June as the busiest month and December as the quietest. Prices rise through spring into May and June, with May typically the priciest month and January typically the cheapest. Travelers seeking lower prices and smaller crowds should aim for the winter and early-spring months, while those after the full peak-season atmosphere will enjoy visiting in May and June. Notably, demand surges in June while prices are already higher in May–June, so crowds and costs move in the same direction at the height of the season.

Tips for travellers from the United States

Most experiences in Sintra can be booked close to travel: Klook data show travellers typically book around six days ahead, with last-minute bookings possible a day before. If you plan to visit in the peak months mentioned above, consider booking earlier (around the early-booking window) to secure preferred tour times and popular historical-site access. Use Klook to compare options and lock in what you want while you plan.
