Fantastic 5.0
it’s a beautiful tour, don’t get me wrong. but have clear expectations to what you’re going to see, if you have travelled Japan, there will be nothing new for you to see. I wouldn’t put this as top of my list for visiting Sapporo. Tour guide was great and I have no complaints about organization or tour company.

I took the trip with hide cai. I liked the pace and the sites were what I wanted to see. The tour guide spoke English well and was able to provide valuable information about the sites that we visited. The weather also cooperated today and we did not encounter any rain.

Fantastic 5.0
Our guide, Alex, was great and helped to take photos of many of us. He also shared bits and pieces of information about the attractions we went to in English and Chinese. The timings allocated for each attraction was also just nice. For those without transport, this was worth the money.

Fantastic 5.0
Our tour guide, Ella, was very professional in her explanations and helped us purchase tickets. Her time management was excellent, allowing us to visit sites efficiently. I give her five stars. My main concern was that the mini-bus drove extremely fast. It was the fastest I've experienced in Japan (we didn't even take the highway on this trip). Combined with numerous potholes and hairpin turns, the vehicle often vibrated. On the return night drive, I was frequently worried about the speed affecting our safety. Perhaps the packed itinerary meant the driver had to rush. As other reviews have mentioned, the bear farm isn't a necessary stop. Also, the Lake Toya fireworks were very small and lacked music. If you've seen other artistic fireworks displays in Japan, you might not need to include the Lake Toya fireworks on your viewing list.

Everything is excellent in general from transportation perspective, Wei (our driver) was great. Our tour day was cloudy so Mt. Yotei was not seen clearly. The schedule was packed with limited time to tour around if you have any elders with you. When we get to Lake Toya, most of the restaurants were closed, not sure why. We couldn’t get in to one of the opened restaurants because they were closing as well or they just didn’t want to service a group of 6. Everyone were flocked to close by 7 Eleven. Fireworks were acceptable as they repeated the same pattern from the left end and slowly move to the right end. If you don’t take the boat, then you just walk along the lake to view.

We had a great time in our private tour with our driver 维钢. His van was comfy and clean. The rate we paid was higher compared to other operators but it was a last minute booking and glad there was still available van and driver to cater us. Thank you. Keep up the great service.

Fantastic 5.0
The itinerary was incredibly rich: it included Lake Shikotsu, Lake Toya, Showa-shinzan Bear Park, Lake Hill Farm, and a boat cruise to watch fireworks. Our guide, Hikaru, was very competent, and the schedule was well-arranged. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't ideal, with clouds and light rain that day, but we still had a fantastic time. Highly recommended.

Fantastic 5.0
It was wonderful to have a relaxed schedule enjoying Lake Shikotsu, the park, foot baths in Jozankei, and even hot spring eggs. Guides Lilu and Baku made the trip so fun, and the driver did a great job driving throughout the trip! I recommend this tour for travelers to Sapporo who want a moderate amount of walking rather than a packed itinerary. Rather than spending time on lunch, it would be better to buy plenty of snacks before departure (there are no convenience stores to speak of along the way) so you can fully immerse yourself in the trip :)

Our guide Harimoto was very kind, helpful and thoughtful! she made my families first time im Hokkaido very special. She was very flexible with our needs and on our long ride to our destination told us fun facts about each place and about Hokkaido. We had a lot of fun exploring and hiking and trying Japanese cherries!!

What to know before visiting Chitose

Top experiences overview

Chitose’s biggest draw is its variety of guided Tours, followed by family-friendly Zoos & aquariums and a handful of Observation decks and outdoor experiences. Demand peaks in 2025-01 and then falls through late spring and summer, so the rhythm of the year pushes most bookings into the winter months.

Activities by traveller type

Families will find Zoos & aquariums and easy Tours most appealing — these offer straightforward, low‑cost entry points that work well with children. Couples often favour Tours and Observation decks for relaxed sightseeing and scenic views, with occasional Water activities for more active outings. Solo travellers and small groups can mix Tours with Outdoor & sports activities to tailor pace and intensity, while Zoos & aquariums remain an easy, budget-friendly choice.

What travellers from the United States book ahead

Most travellers keep plans flexible — many bookings are made within a couple of weeks of travel — but the earliest planners still tend to book around 27 days ahead. Booking in advance matters most during the peak in 2025-01, when availability tightens and pre-booking is advisable.

Category comparison

Zoos & aquariums are the cheapest way in and are consistently low-priced, great for budget-conscious families. Water activities sit at the top end of the price range and suit travellers after a premium, active experience. Tours have the widest range of prices, from entry-level to premium, making them the most versatile option for different budgets and group types. Observation decks and Outdoor & sports activities fall in the mid-range and are good for couples and active small groups seeking focused experiences.
