Hozugawa River Rafting: A Dialogue Between Traditional Wooden Boats and Nature After the train journey, we will transfer to a traditional Hozugawa River rafting boat. With a skilled boatman at the helm, we will drift downstream from Kameoka to Arashiyama. This section of the river is approximately 16 kilometers long, passing by unique rock formations, clear streams, and lush green valleys along the way.
This tour provides transportation from Kyoto or Osaka, eliminating the hassle of planning your own travel. You can freely choose whether to experience Hozugawa River rafting, offering high flexibility! The itinerary also includes free time for travelers to explore the Arashiyama area, such as strolling through the famous Bamboo Grove, visiting Tenryu-ji Temple, and tasting authentic Kyoto sweets and wagashi!

Ben was our tour guide, friendly kind and well thought guide. He shared us a lot of tips and history of the location. the trip include a train, which you can see river and beautiful scene. and then boat rafting for 2 hours, enjoy various level of water ride, please note that you might be get wet. lastly 2 hours self exploration bamboo, shrine, shoplots etc.

We really enjoyed this tour package because it took away the hassle of buying separate tickets for different attractions. It was completely stress-free—all we had to do was listen to and follow our amazing guide, Hua Hua. Hua Hua was warm, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable, which made the experience even more enjoyable. The river boat ride was absolutely fantastic and definitely the highlight of the trip for us. It was such a memorable experience and something we’ll always remember! Highly recommended! 😊
Yujin’s friendly & very helpful. Tour was already full for Train & River Tour, but Yujin helped us to buy tickets on the spot so we can enjoy the river tour too. Tour’s pace & timing is very comfortable. Minimum walking, maximum view. You’ll have time to stroll around Arashimaya w the free time left after river rafting. Many restos in the area. Only downside is the lunch time which is around 2pm but you’ll be given lots of opportunity to take snacks prior to that. Many toilet break too. River Rafting is quite calm. Romantic Train ride was enjoyable w the great view too. May 12 weather is beautiful. Not too cold. a bit sunny but there’s a cool breeze.

Our tour guide Joe, have been wonderful throughout this trip. He has this quirky humour that made us smile often. The ‘romance train’ ride was more like a ‘nostalgia train’ ride dating back to early 1900’s. upon arriving at Arashiyama, we had given free time (4 hours). we’ve decided to go for a rickshaw ride. Good call as we would’ve just walk and walked not knowing the area. Money well spent. This trip was very memorable for me (64), my mom(86) and to my aunt (92).
Yujin was amazing! He was extremely kind, organized, and informative! His explanations were very thorough and he was very patient as well. Yujin made our day seamless and provided a wonderful day for us on his tour! I was surprised how many opportunities we had to get food or snacks and use the restroom as well so it’s not a stressful day. After the boat ride we had about 2.5 hours to explore Arashiyama with an option to stay longer and not take the bus back as well. Highly recommend this tour and well worth it! Thank you again Yujin!!
The bus tour guide and the boat tour guides were great. they really took good care of us. I love the Arashiyama sceneries most of all with the river rapids and the cherry blossoms! BTW, I love the river vendors! 👍🏽😁
Our tour guide, Hua Hua, is the best that a group can have. He is very funny and keep our group alive. He constantly updates us on what to expect and the places to go around Arashimaya. He is a good singer, too! Thank you for hosting us, Hua Hua!
Took the scenic train through Arashiyama in Kyoto, and the views did not disappoint! The ride along the river and through the lush greenery was super relaxing. I was really looking forward to the Hozugawa River boat tour too, but unfortunately, it got cancelled due to the weather. Still, the train ride alone made the trip worthwhile! The pick up point was easy to locate and staffs were friendly/helpful too.

- If a Sagano Romantic Train ticket cannot be provided, a refund of JPY 880 per person will be issued through the platform.
- Guests who choose the plan without the Hozugawa River Boat Ride experience can purchase tickets on-site on the day, but please note that boarding may not be possible due to weather or other factors (e.g., maximum capacity reached).
- If you choose not to participate in the Hozugawa River Boat Ride experience, you will need to wait until the passengers participating in the boat ride have boarded before the bus proceeds to Arashiyama.
- The Hozugawa River Boat Ride experience may be canceled due to weather or other factors, but the rest of the itinerary will proceed as scheduled. In case of cancellation, the free activity time in Arashiyama will be automatically extended, and the boat ticket fee will be partially refunded by the platform after the tour ends: JPY 4,000 per adult and JPY 3,000 per child (the refund amount is for group special rates). We appreciate your understanding.
- Seats on the Sagano Romantic Train cannot be specified.
Attire and Items to Bring
- Each guest may bring one suitcase (maximum size). Luggage may need to be checked into the luggage compartment or can be carried to your seat. Please keep valuables with you; the operator will not be responsible for any loss.
- Due to seasonal and weather changes, temperatures may vary. Please prepare for cold or hot weather accordingly.
Important Notes
- For guests who complete their booking after 18:00, due to operational process limitations, we will not be able to send “Tour Guide Information” and “Travel Notification” on the same day. We apologize for any inconvenience.
- The itinerary is primarily in Chinese. The staff on the bus will try their best to arrange corresponding personnel according to your preferred language.
- Depending on the number of participants, a small bus may be used, and the driver may also serve as the tour guide.
- Seats are not assigned. If you have a request, please inform the tour guide on the day.
- There are no restrooms on the bus. Please prepare in advance. We appreciate your understanding.
- Meals are not included. Please prepare your own before departure.
Participation Restrictions
- Failure to arrive at the meeting time will be considered a no-show, and no refund will be issued. Please be sure to confirm the meeting point in advance and arrive on time.
- A tour guide will accompany the tour, but professional commentary will not be provided.
- According to facility regulations, all preschool children (including infants) will be charged from now on. If there are children aged 0-2 in a previously booked order who were not noted as needing to board the boat, an additional Hozugawa children’s ticket fee will be required on-site. Please be aware.
- Children must be over 80 cm tall to experience the Hozugawa River Rafting Boat Ride. Please be sure to note this in your order.
Other Matters
- Due to factors such as traffic/weather conditions, the time spent at attractions may be shortened, and some itinerary sequences may be adjusted. We apologize for any inconvenience.
- If arrival time is delayed, making it impossible to connect with public transportation, related taxi fares and other transportation costs, as well as accommodation costs, must be borne by the guest.
- If the tour is canceled on the day due to special circumstances, the operator will contact you by phone or email. If you do not receive contact, it means the tour will proceed as planned.
- If you are late or unable to participate in the tour due to delays in your own transportation, 100% of the fee will be charged.
