Mokube in Gion - Michelin Starred Kaiseki

Everything was good, food was delicious, chef was friendly and the team spoke a little English to explain what we ate and where it was sourced from. Small intimate setting of only 6-7 seats at the counter. Highly recommended if you’re in the Gion area!

We were seated at the bar right in front of the chef! It’s a really personal dining experience with the chef preparing the food right in front of you and explaining the dishes - he speaks some English too! The food was delicious too, and you get to keep the napkin and chopsticks as a souvenir! (they clean it for you)

It is easy to find on the street, and each dish is carefully introduced. Knowing that we are foreign tourists, we also introduce it with pictures and texts. The ingredients are fresh and the cooking skills are excellent. Every dish has surprises.

Superb lunch! I was able to book this solo, which not many kaiseki takes reservation for one person on klook at least. Every dish they will explain the ingredient and what kind of fish they were presenting. The chef was very accommodating and he speaks some english. The sashimi was the most tender I’ve had, it’s been aged! I had the smaller set which was good enough for me. I probably would have hard time finishing the bigger set! Highly recommend and there’s numerous good restaurant around the street!

The head chef can speak English, and each dish will introduce the ingredients used after serving. Although the price is slightly higher, it is worth experiencing a high-end Japanese kaiseki meal

Each dish was unique, delicious, and full of character. The clean interior and the cheerful Japanese woman who spoke Korean fluently made the experience even more enjoyable. I wish my husband and son, who are introverted, had participated more in the conversation. I'm grateful that she went out of her way to look up the fish names in a book for us since we didn't know them in English or Japanese, and she did so every time. The meal took about 2 hours.
