What to expect
[Nyoirin-ji Temple] Also known as the Frog Temple. The temple buildings are simple and elegant, filled with a strong Zen atmosphere. The main structures include the Main Hall, the Zen Hall, and the Sutra Repository. These buildings not only hold high historical value but also showcase the aesthetics of traditional Japanese architecture. Ever since the head priest brought back a jade frog from China, this temple has accumulated 10,000 frog figurines. [Mount Yufu Trailhead] Mount Yufu is located in an active volcanic zone and features a unique volcanic landscape. The mountain body is matcha-green, and its vegetation displays different colors across the four seasons. The scenery around the trailhead is breathtakingly beautiful. [Yufuin] Combining Ghibli’s Japanese fantasy style with English countryside charm, Yufuin is also a famous hot spring resort in Kyushu. The rustic, peaceful town environment and the warm, healthy outdoor hot spring baths (rotenburo) are the charming appeals that make visitors linger and reluctant to leave. [Kinrin Lake] Originally named “Gakushitaikei” (Lake Under the Peak), it was later renamed after Confucian scholar Mouri Kuso observed the lake surface glittering like fish scales in the setting sun. Its uniqueness lies in the hot spring water gushing from the bottom of the lake, which mixes with the outside cold water to create a dreamy landscape shrouded in mist. [Umi Jigoku & Kamado Jigoku] Beppu is famous for its hot spring industry, with over 200 public hot springs across the city. The sheer number of springs and the richness of their water quality are among the best in the world. Here, you can also experience Beppu’s specialty—Jigoku-mushi (Hell Steaming), a cuisine cooked using the high-temperature steam of the hot springs, which preserves the original flavors of the ingredients to the utmost extent. **# Pre-trip Notice ## Between 17:00 and 21:00 on the day before departure, we will contact you via the contact information you provided. Reviews
The tour did not feel rushed. Just the right pace for people who like to visit multiple spots. Our tour guide, Ms. Nicole, was also very warm and approachable. She even sent us files of recommended stores to visit and food to try both in Hakata and within the area where we had our tour. She also speaks good english. I am a solo traveler but I did not feel left out on this tour. Ms. Nicole even offered to take my photos but I'm shy so I refused. 😆 Overall, this tour is highly recommended. Arigato gozaimasu! 🇯🇵
I signed up for this tour knowing it was exclusively for foreign visitors. Traveling to Yufuin by train on my own would have been both time-consuming and expensive, and this tour was cheaper than those for Japanese tourists. The guide was Chinese and explained things in English and Chinese, but since they also spoke Japanese, they were able to explain the meeting point and time in Japanese, which was very helpful. Yufuin was incredibly crowded during Golden Week. I recommend visiting during a less busy time to enjoy a more relaxed sightseeing experience.
The Chinese female tour guide was very punctual. The car was a bit old (for someone around 175-180 cm tall, a single seat was quite cramped). If your family consists of tall people, you should really consider booking a different private car. The air conditioning was only adjusted to be a bit cooler after everyone asked (otherwise, the Japanese car's constant heating was really dizzying). The attractions were well-arranged. The 2.5-hour stop in Yufuin allowed us to see about 70% of it. It felt like we could have stayed longer, but then we worried about traffic on the way back to Hakata (this is a good option for those who don't want to stay in Yufuin but still want to visit Kinrin Lake and the lively areas of Yufuin).
Our Tourguide, Kevin, was really nice and funny. Our highlights were the hot springs in Beppu, besides the smell, we really enjoyed them. The colour of the water combined with the steam was truly remarkable, definitely worth a trip! The frog temple was cute too and even though Yufuin was extremely crowded we adored the cute shops, except for the animal cages. Overall, we recommend this tour!
Booking a one-day tour saves a lot of time finding transportation yourself, and you can visit multiple attractions in one day. Special thanks to the female tour guide, Yang Meng, on the day; she was very attentive, polite, and responsible. When we arrived at the attractions, she would proactively help us take photos and introduce famous local foods, suggesting we try them. We chose this restaurant that day; it was very authentic. Each meal was made to order and served fresh. This was my first time in Beppu, and seeing the different colored pools of water was very special. There were also onsen (hot spring) eggs, corn, and steamed buns available for purchase.
The itinerary was well-organized, not too packed, and allowed a reasonable amount of time at each stop. The tour guide was excellent at explaining the locations and taking care of the participants. The transfer vehicle was clean and comfortable, and the driver provided polite service. Highly recommended!
We had a wonderful time attending this Beppu Yufuin One-Day Tour. Our guide, Ms. Yang, was very clear in explaining the facts and history of the place that we will be visiting and she also send us recommendations of places for lunch since we were traveling with a vegetarian. I also like the part that she reserved the first seat for us so that it would not be difficult for my mom who is a senior citizen. Overall, I would highly recommend this tour. Not only did we managed to visit some beautiful places, it was also friendly to senior citizens.
I'm very satisfied with this one-day tour, and I must commend our tour guide! All arrangements were excellent, and they informed us of all the best places to eat and play. They even sent us multiple location pins, which saved us a lot of time and allowed us to enjoy so much delicious food. They were truly thoughtful. Finally, I'd also like to thank the driver for the pick-up and drop-off; the driver was very punctual! I truly appreciate both of them for taking care of us all day!
great experience learned so much about beppu and yufin! highly recommend if you wish to try more food and get out of the city to see more local spots!
Tour guide Xiao Liu was very responsible, dedicated, and enthusiastic. He provided explanations in both Chinese and English throughout the trip, which were very clear and precise. The itinerary wasn't rushed, and we had two and a half hours of free time in Yufuin, which was a great experience.
