Things to do in Mount Aso

We had a wonderful experience on the Mount Aso, Kusasenri & Takachiho Gorge Day Tour! The itinerary was well-planned, and we really enjoyed seeing the beautiful scenery of Kyushu, especially Mount Aso and Takachiho Gorge. Eiichi was a very good guide, friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, and made sure everyone was comfortable throughout the tour. He also gave us helpful information about the places we visited, which made the experience even more enjoyable. Overall, we really enjoyed the tour and would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Kyushu!

Departing on September 9, 2026, our guide, Miyamoto, provided detailed explanations. Since Mount Aso was currently closed (due to a helicopter accident), our itinerary was changed to Aso Bousou Kugino Roadside Station, a rest stop with beautiful views of the Aso mountain range. Afterward, we visited Kamishikimi Kumanoza Shrine, which felt like being in a movie scene. We then arrived at Kusasenri for lunch, a vast grassland on the mountain with many horses and cows along the way, offering a very relaxing landscape. The final stop was Kurokawa Onsen, a charming and comfortable hot spring town, where we also enjoyed delicious cream puffs. The entire trip was well worth experiencing, and our guide welcomed everyone to Kumamoto. Most attractions have been open since the earthquake in July 2026, so visitors can come with peace of mind. Very well planned tour, we didn’t feel rush and were lucky enough to see all the sights under great weather. Our tour guide was Kevin and we couldn’t ask for a better one, he has great humor, explanation and very responsible to ensure everyone is taken care of. It’s one of the best day tour you can get if you have a free day in Fukuoka area to experience the nature! (But definitely check the weather first!)

We had such a wonderful day tour with our guide, Sun Peng! 😊 My husband and I truly enjoyed ourselves, and Sun Peng definitely made the experience even more memorable. He was engaging, humorous, knowledgeable and incredibly caring throughout the day. He shared interesting stories and information with us in such an easy and enjoyable way, and his friendly personality made us feel comfortable from the very beginning. You can really tell that he genuinely cares about his guests and wants them to have a great experience. We had lots of fun, learned so much, and enjoyed every moment of the tour! It was my first time in Kumamoto, and I was so lucky to have tour guide Yin Delong! Our guide was incredibly thoughtful and responsible, patiently explaining everything from attraction details and transportation methods to even the smallest nuances. I was particularly impressed when the guide personally drew maps for us, making it much clearer how to get around; it truly showed their dedication. The driver also had excellent driving skills! Although our trip encountered rain, attraction renovations, and fog at Kusasenri, Yin Delong was still very patient in assisting us and helped resolve any unexpected issues. Thank you for saying we can contact you with any questions about Kyushu in the future. I hope to have the chance to join your tour again on my next visit to Kyushu!

Today was perfect, with an incredibly kind guide and even ideal weather. Mount Aso was so beautiful, and the grandeur of Takachiho Gorge, along with the mysterious scenery of Kamishikimi Kumanoimasu Shrine, was all wonderful. Our guide was attentive to each person, even with a large group! I'm usually a big fan of independent travel, so I didn't have high expectations for this tour, but the itinerary was so well-planned that it was a great experience. Most of the group was Chinese, and I was the only Korean, but I was so well taken care of, and I'm very grateful. If the weather is good, you absolutely must go on this tour!!👍👍

It was great! There were guides available who spoke Korean, Japanese, Chinese, and English, and they were all very kind and repeatedly provided information and explanations. They answered all our questions immediately and were very thorough! I was worried because lunch wasn't included, thinking, 'Does that mean I can't take the free shuttle, and I'll have to eat onigiri on the bus?' But it turned out we could use a taxi shuttle (300 yen per person) and eat at restaurants near the Volcano Museum, which was a pleasant surprise! However, the price of the restaurant meal wasn't much different from the bulgogi that comes with the included lunch, so next time I'll probably opt for the lunch. Haha. On the other hand, the restaurant next to the museum had a diverse menu, and the food was delicious! Horse meat is famous, and so is Akagyu (red cattle)... Rice is also famous for being delicious, so we tried the Wagyu donburi, horse meat yukhoe bibimbap, and ramen. The Wagyu donburi was expensive but incredibly delicious. I don't recommend the horse meat yukhoe bibimbap. It tasted good, but when the rice, sauce, yukhoe, and raw egg were mixed, it became a bit mushy. The ramen was also delicious, and the rice itself was tasty! The unlimited miso soup and rice were an added bonus! Also, the milk soft-serve ice cream and volcanic ash coffee were delicious. Kusasenri was mostly obscured by fog, which was a bit disappointing, but it was nice to smell the sulfur, and the boat experience was a lot of fun! I highly recommend the boat ride! Anyway, I had a lot of worries, but the guides were skilled at leading the tour, everything went smoothly, and the schedule was kept perfectly, which was great! I'll probably use this service again! GoGoTrip? GoGoGo? Anyway... they also explained the history and myths, which was entertaining!

We had an awesome day. Li the guide was able to talk in 3 different languages an keep the day very smooth with the group. He also told us stories about each places and gave great ice cream recommendation. We didn’t rush. We had time to visit each place. The food was amazing!!!! I highly recommend this tour.

I think this one-day tour was fantastic. Not only was the buy-one-get-one-free deal incredibly good value, but they also gave us souvenirs at the end. What I really appreciated most was not having to worry about transportation. Our tour guide was also very professional, and his English was excellent. We had foreign tourists in our group, and the guide could switch from Chinese to English instantly. His English was very pleasant to listen to. The only downside was that the flowing noodle area was closed due to an earthquake or something similar, so we didn't get to try the flowing noodles, which was a bit of a shame. Also, some group members went boating and were late, but the guide waited for them.
