The world of Donkey Kong is coming to Universal Studios Japan in Second Half of 2024
Happy news from Universal Studios Japan! The new Donkey Kong area opening in Super Nintendo World has become a trending topic, attracting more travellers than ever.
A world-first, this new attraction based on the super popular game Donkey Kong will open in the Super Nintendo World Expansion in the second half of 2024 (Update: Previously it was announced that Donkey Kong Country would be opening Spring 2024).

When does Donkey Kong Country open?

The exact date is yet to be announced, but Donkey Kong Country is set to open in the second half of 2024!

The new area is part of Super Nintendo World, which will be expanded next to Mario's world-themed area with Peach Castle and Kuppa Castle.

This expansion will increase the site area of Super Nintendo World by about 1.7 times! No surprises here - this new area will definitely be making Super Nintendo World EVEN MORE popular!
What’s new in Donkey Kong Country?
"Donkey Kong Country" offers a variety of up-and-coming ride attractions and theme park experiences that you can enjoy with your whole body. [...] Since its introduction at "Super Nintendo World," it has attracted many guests with its innovation and novelty, creating a theme park experience linked to smartphones."

According to what was announced in December 2023, there’s no doubt that we can look forward to these four things:
- Donkey Kong's Crazy Trucko, an up-and-coming ride attraction
- Whole-body activities
- Original food
- Original goods
Like the game's stage, the new area is said to be filled with lush jungles and a world where Donkey Kong can pop up at any moment!

According to Universal Creative Vice President and Chief Creative Officer Brian Robinson, the new “Donkey Kong Crazy Trolley" is:
- A coaster design full of novelty and innovation that isn’t bound by conventional ideas for rides and attractions.
- An unpredictable experience of jumping a broken track
- A visually and viscerally stimulating experience
- A novel coaster that can only be created from here!

What is Donkey Kong the game?

Donkey Kong was born in 1981 as an arcade game from Nintendo.
Since then, the series released on Super Fami-Con, Wii, and Nintendo Switch has become a big hit and is a representative game work of Nintendo that has gained popularity, not only in Japan but also all over the world.
Total worldwide sales of the series will exceed 65 million units as of March 2021.
What’s behind the scenes of Donkey Kong Country’s development?
It’ll be a magnificent area that combines Nintendo's creativity, including fellow director Shigeru Miyamoto of Nintendo Co., Ltd. It is scheduled to open in the spring of 2024, but the Osaka-Kansai Expo will be held in 2025, so it is expected to have a synergistic effect.
