Fantastic 5.0
An acquaintance in Japan recommended this tour, so I stumbled upon it and ended up joining on short notice right before my trip. I was worried at first because it was rainy, but it turned out to be a truly satisfying tour. Shirakawago and Takayama were great, but personally, Gujo Hachiman, which we visited last, left a particularly deep impression. Rather than a flashy tourist spot, it retains a quiet, cozy, old Japanese atmosphere, making it great for a leisurely stroll and taking pictures. Guide Lee Young-min kindly took care of everything from meeting up to transportation and schedule guidance, so it was nice to comfortably tour multiple areas in a single day. In particular, at Gujo Hachiman at the end, I wandered around slowly by myself for a bit and took photos, and it was the most relaxing and memorable time of this trip! The atmosphere seems like it would be completely different in another season, so I would love to join again in the winter. Thank you so much for creating such wonderful memories.

Fantastic 5.0
Cici was a great guide, she was fluent in 3 languages, she gave us freedom to follow her around or to explore by ourselves. Felt a bit rushed in gujo hachiman, but the rest felt we had much much spare time to explore. Going with a tour like these is way cheaper than going by yourself.

Fantastic 5.0
What a fantastic experience! This was my first time joining a Klook day tour abroad. The night before the trip, seeing the pre-departure instructions sent by the tour guide via email made me feel much more at ease. Throughout the journey, our guide, Mr. Wang, fluently introduced the attractions and provided various reminders to travelers in Chinese, English, and Japanese. He was very professional! The entire itinerary ran very smoothly, and the timing was perfectly managed. Although Shirakawa-go in the summer doesn't have its classic snow-covered scenery, the lush green landscape offers a different kind of beauty.

Fantastic 5.0
Our driver and tour guide, Abu, was incredibly kind and provided excellent service. He was very friendly and helpful throughout the trip, and the itinerary and timing were perfectly arranged. The overall pace was well-managed, never feeling rushed, yet making full use of our time, allowing everyone to enjoy themselves thoroughly and relax. The trip's itinerary was very smooth, and the routes were direct, which was a huge help for travelers like us who weren't driving. We didn't have to worry about transportation or directions, allowing us to easily visit famous attractions like Kamikochi, Shirakawa-go, and Takayama, and simply enjoy the journey. During the tour, Abu even made sure to allocate extra time for us to explore at a leisurely pace, so we never felt rushed. He was also very accommodating to all the requests from our group members, which made the entire trip run very smoothly. What impressed us most was his thoughtfulness: when he noticed everyone was resting or sleeping during the drive, he would intentionally slow down the car so we could sleep more peacefully. These seemingly small details made a huge difference for us, especially traveling with two young children. It truly showed Abu's dedication and care for his group members, making us feel very secure throughout the journey. Additionally, Abu assisted us with hotel transfers, making the entire trip even more convenient and stress-free. We are very grateful for Abu's meticulous service and thoughtful arrangements throughout the trip, which made us feel very comfortable and created wonderful travel memories! We highly recommend Abu and this tour, and we look forward to traveling with him again in the future!

Fantastic 5.0
Very well paced tour with ample time to explore each area. Guide Lui Chang was very professional and she speaks 3 languages. This is not a guided tour. The guide will just explain what we can do in the area and the time we need to be back to the bus and we are off to explore the area on our own.

Fantastic 5.0
We mainly signed up for Gujo Hachiman Castle, and it's definitely worth climbing up to the main keep to take a look. The only downside was that we only had an hour in Gujo Hachiman, which felt a bit rushed if you wanted to climb up to the castle. In Hida Takayama Old Town, you must try Hida beef, and in Shirakawa-go, you absolutely have to go up to the observation deck. Our tour guide, Liu Chang, was excellent (100 points)! Before the tour started, she introduced the attractions in three languages (Chinese, English, and Japanese) and clearly communicated the meeting times. The driver drove steadily. It was a very fulfilling trip, highly recommended.

Great 4.0
The overall itinerary was smooth, and there was ample time to explore each tourist spot. Our tour leader, Kevin, provided excellent care and arrangements, and even helped us take photos. However, the itinerary stated two nights at a hot spring inn, but unfortunately, we only stayed there on the first night, which was a bit disappointing.

What to know before visiting Gujo

Top experiences to expect across the year

Gujo’s top draws are its guided Tours, which account for most bookings, followed by Outdoor & sports activities and small but steady interest in Historical sites. Demand peaks in January and dips through late summer, so the town’s busiest period is at the start of the year while August is typically quiet.

Best activities for families, couples and solo travellers

Families will find Tours and Parks & gardens the easiest fit — Tours offer organised itineraries that suit mixed-age groups, while gardens provide low-key downtime. Couples often gravitate to Outdoor & sports activities and guided Tours for more active or intimate experiences. Solo travellers and small groups can pick from the same Tours for social discovery or choose Historical sites for budget-friendly, self-paced exploring.

What travellers from the Philippines should book ahead

Most visitors staying around a week keep plans reasonably flexible and can book many things a day or two before, but the earliest planners still lock in key activities around two weeks ahead. Booking in advance matters most for travel in January, when demand is at its peak; otherwise you’ll usually find availability closer to your dates.

How the main categories compare on price and appeal

Historical sites are the easiest, lowest-cost way into Gujo’s attractions, while Outdoor & sports activities sit at the higher end of the price range. Tours offer the widest spread of options, from entry-level to premium, making them the most versatile choice for different budgets and group types. Parks & gardens are a modest, low-cost option that suits visitors after relaxed, family-friendly outings.
