Singapore lives up to its name as the “Garden City.”

Nestled in the heart of the urban area is a blossoming spot known as the Singapore Botanic Gardens. It’s home to hundreds and thousands of plants, including a wide variety of trees, shrubs, and flowering plants. To say it’s beautiful is an understatement as this also happens to be the first and only botanical garden recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
In addition to roaming the park’s lush greenery and admiring the rare orchids, you can also go on a hiking trail, have a picnic on the grounds, and learn more about the flora at the botanical art gallery. There’s so much to do and discover at the Singapore Botanic Gardens – no wonder it’s one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country. Here are some of the most inspiring Singapore Botanic Gardens events and attractions to look out for.

    1. National Orchid Garden

The Singapore Botanic Gardens’ sanctuary of orchids is a sight to behold, with over 1000 species and 2000 hybrids on exhibit.

What once was a research facility to study and propagate rare plant species now houses the largest collection of orchids in Singapore. It recently underwent a renovation by adding a tropical Montane Orchidetum, enhancing the Yuen Peng McNeice Bromeliad Collection, and upgrading the Tan Hoon Siang Mist House.

    2. Nature Remixed: Where are the borders of our paradise?

Nature remixed is a sound project by Sistrum that’s ongoing until January 07, 2023. It’s a Singapore Botanic Gardens event that offers you an even more immersive experience at the park using layered voice, space, text, and soundscapes. Think of it as listening to nature’s podcast. There’s also the option to access the sonic project online in case you’re interested.

    3. Ginger Garden

Who would’ve thought we’d ever be interested to see a variety of ginger species and sizes? The white or pink-colored flowers in particular set a romantic tone, which makes it an ideal date spot for couples. This attraction at the Singapore Botanic Gardens features a scenic waterfall and a pool filled with huge giant water lilies that are beautifully illuminated at night.

    4. Swan Lake

Swan Lake is a historic attraction at the Singapore Botanic Gardens that dates to 1866. A pair of lovely Amsterdam mute swans grace the lake and will provide you with a great photo opportunity. The plants, fish, and water monitor lizards that habituate Swan Lake add to the charm of the area. Walking is more convenient as there are very few traffic jams along this route.

    5. Evolution Garden

The idea behind the Evolution Garden was to demonstrate how some plants had evolved over time as they adapted to their surroundings. It’s an informative and picturesque tour where you’ll be introduced to a variety of plants from different periods. No dinosaurs will be in sight but you’ll get to visualize what lifeless earth would look like when wandering the trails.
