A highly recommended experience, for the space, the kindness, and the food, which is delicious and completely plant-based. The eggplant with miso is spectacular; the best I've ever tasted. Arigato gozaimasu 🙏🏽
You have to buy tickets for the garden to access the temple restaurant. The garden is very beautiful to visit, it gives it charm. Regarding the restaurant, the food is excellent. There are lots of different flavors. I recommend this restaurant.
2/10 (Saturday) Went to Arashiyama/Tenryuji Temple on the first day of the Lunar New Year. Shojin cuisine, which I have heard about for a long time, may seem simple, but each dish is rich in hidden details. For example, soybeans are not enough to eat, so just eat one and taste it. It turns out that after chewing, it has a deep and slightly sweet taste; it looks like Sichuan blanched cauliflower with sauce, but the yellow sauce tastes like yellow mustard, with a slight acidity and irritation. The mustard flavor (remembering that Japanese food has another spicy and exciting plant seasoning, I forgot the name for a moment), makes ordinary green vegetables have many layers; the konjac, which I don’t really appreciate, is cooked to the heart in marinade. Sweet, salty and chewy; I was surprised to find rice cakes in the soy milk pot...I was full again and still had a big bowl of rice left! By the way, the peanut tofu tastes so rich~ It always reminds me of Shiyang Shanfang🤣
At first, we followed the navigation to the side door. Fortunately, the store posted directions at the side door telling us how to get to the main entrance. At the main entrance, you must first buy a ticket to enter the Tenryuji Temple garden. After entering, we followed the instructions to enter Seigetsu. We were taken to a Japanese-style room with a portrait of Bodhidharma. There were four seats, two on each side. Since another group of guests were still there, We didn't arrive, so the store let us choose which side to sit on. After we sat down, there was an English instruction sheet telling us how to enjoy the tofu hot pot. Then the dishes were served one by one very quickly. The dishes are rich in flavor. I can’t believe that they are all vegetarian, and that such cooking techniques can bring out the original taste of the ingredients. Highly recommended, be sure to try it at Tenryuji Temple.
The service & experience is exceptional. The food is served at 3 batches and the staff would see our progress before serving more. and everything is so delicious. the garden outside is really zen. would definitely recommend to my family & friends.
The location of the restaurant is a bit difficult to find. You need to buy tickets to enter. The food is very exquisite and delicious. You need to cross your legs to enjoy it. It is worth visiting again.
It's delicious. The vegetarian food can satisfy me who likes meat food. I couldn't find a place to eat it at first. It was in the garden. I had to do some homework before coming.
It's more delicious than expected. Hot tea is served directly from the pot. It's delicious. You can see maple leaves outside the window. There are small chairs for those who can't kneel down.
Very delicious food. It is very convenient to book a table directly when dining in the temple.
This is a must-eat option in Arashiyama! This set involved a large room for privacy and tranquility. The tofu was of the highest quality! And every dish was like a mini surprise, although it was my second time dining there.
