Get introduced to a real Maiko or Geiko (Geisha) of Kyoto for a rare chance to learn, indulge the senses, and be charmed. Watch her dance, interact, and take commemorative photos.

【Event Flow】
-Introduction and welcome
-Enjoy two traditional dance performances (8-10 minutes in total)
-The English-speaking staff will provide a brief background on the Maiko and an explanation of her attire
-Next the host will conduct an informative interview with the Maiko
-10-15 minutes dedicated to taking photos with the Maiko
-Also, as you depart you will be provided with a small gift with the opportunity to shop for high-quality Japanese goods right after the show at the Kyoto Handicraft Center
【For those who are unfamiliar with the term "Maiko"...】
A Maiko is a young apprentice Geisha (also referred to as a Geiko) exclusive to the Kyoto region. They don intricately designed kimono, glamorous hairstyles adorned with distinctive hairpieces, and captivating makeup indicated by the trademark white face paint amidst contrasting red and black accents. Maiko are required to undertake strenuous training in traditional Japanese arts which include dance, music, and the tea ceremony, alongside mastering the art of conversation, social etiquette, and hospitality. Generally, Maiko entertain guests at teahouses and banquet halls while they hone their skills and cultivate their own unique style before entering the world of the Geisha (Geiko).

We absolutely loved this experience and felt lucky to meet a maiko in person. We took our 12yr old old and was a warm, inviting and informative space for cultural learning and understanding. We learnt about the intricacies, the commitment and cultural nuances of becoming a maiko. We had the opportunity to watching our Maiko perform , learn about her kimono and ask her questions . We ended the visit with a wonderful picture to capture our time with her and explore the Handicraft center in the same building which was a great place to buy unique Japanese gifts from local artistist.
for the price It was all I expected plus more. although the setting isn’t overly authentic the show was intimate and I really enjoyed the time given for Q &A the maiko performed beautifully and we got to get photos with her in which the staff did a great job making sure the photo turned out well. the interpreter was very informative. I a great cultural experience.
An absolutely unforgettable experience and one of the highlights of our time in Kyoto. Watching the Maiko- san perform was truly mesmerising. Her grace, elegance and dedication to this beautiful tradition were incredible to witness, and it felt like we were given a rare glimpse into a world that is so deeply connected to Kyoto’s history and culture. The opportunity to ask questions afterwards made the experience even more special. She was so gracious, engaging and patient, and learning more about her life, training and the traditions behind the performance gave us a much deeper appreciation for what we had seen. It was one of those experiences that we will genuinely remember for the rest of our lives. If you are visiting Kyoto, I cannot recommend this enough. A beautiful, authentic and unforgettable experience.
A truly beautiful and memorable experience. The Maiko show in Kyoto was absolutely lovely and felt very authentic. The performance was elegant, peaceful, and thoughtfully presented, giving a real sense of traditional Japanese culture. Everything was handled with care and respect, and the atmosphere was intimate and special. I’m very glad I went and can wholeheartedly recommend this experience to anyone visiting Kyoto.
we had a great experience meeting Maliko-San. The moderator was 5*. the dancing was mesmerising and we really enjoyed the Q&A. our only constructive feedback is that for the price we would have enjoyed seeing more of the Maiko skills, such as singing or instrument playing. overall great experience
