I highly recommend supporting Grandma’s Lantern! At 94 years old, she is still there with a smile, helping visitors and ensuring everyone has a great experience. The photos we took with her are our favorite souvenirs. It’s a small business with a huge heart—don’t skip this spot!
They spoke in Japanese, explained things clearly, led us with a great tempo, and took perfect pictures and videos. They really got us excited. The lantern went up high, and this series of events alone made it worth the effort to go, even though we had been cut off from transportation just before due to the continuous rain. It's all thanks to the staff. Thank you very much.
the granma is super cool.
Thanks to the kind guide, it was a pleasant trip even in the rain.
Great service, the staff are excellent.
The process was fast. the stalls were numbered so it was easy to find the stall. However, i requested the lady if o can have the pictures on the railway but she didnt want to. It’s ok, i got it over with and i have my pictures anyway. In the future. Id just choose there. no need for pre booking
Experience: The grandma and a lady in pink in the store were friendly, and everything went smoothly at first. But when it came to lighting the lantern and taking pictures, the male owner was unwilling for us to take pictures on the tracks like all the other tourists. He repeatedly reminded us of the sign that said pedestrians should not cross the tracks and asked us to consider carefully and be responsible for the fine ourselves... In fact, everyone on site was taking pictures on the tracks, and we also expressed our willingness to take responsibility ourselves (we are locals, and communicated entirely in Mandarin). However, the owner was quite stern, muttering, "...This is causing us trouble..." We are not people who insist on arguing, so we reluctantly accepted and placed it in front of their store as he requested. But what followed was even more disappointing. The owner seemed very sensitive about time. He didn't help us take pictures or suggest angles like other stores do. Although he didn't say anything harsh when we were trying to find the right angle ourselves and our children needed more angles for photos, he was very impatient. Overall, we came to make wishes with positive energy, but the experience of lighting and releasing the sky lantern at this store made even us, who have good tempers and are easy to cooperate with, feel negative energy. We released a total of three lanterns here, and in the end, the children were very disappointed. They are old enough to feel that the owner disapproved of them wanting to take more angles. And they didn't know how to express themselves correctly and insist reasonably, so they retreated and didn't continue taking pictures, and could only release the lantern. The owner seemed to have been waiting for this moment for a long time and immediately turned around and left. We were just consumers who spent money and obediently cooperated with a discounted experience. We were the only ones on site who didn't light and release lanterns on the tracks, and we were the only ones the owner didn't help take pictures of, or even let take pictures of our own angles properly. Because the children, who had been looking forward to it for months, were so disappointed, we decided to buy another one at another store (we consumed three sky lanterns at this store). Thank goodness, we completed a good experience of taking good pictures and releasing the lantern properly. We didn't make any requests, and the staff at that store took the initiative to help take pictures, cheer us on, and the process was professional and smooth. It finally made us feel normal—we didn't ask for anything extra, just happily took pictures and released the lantern in one go. Finally, we left Shifen with positive wishing energy.
Not recommend. Pretty bad. the senior lady Ama was friendly. there was another young lady in pink who was welcoming as well. the male owner who helped us with litting the lantern/ launching the lantern wasn’t easy to work with. unlike other shop owners who were very helping with picking a spot on/ near the railway and cheered for the groups with different poses for photos and video taping, this male owner simply wanted us to just do it in front of their shop, which isn’t photogenic. He kept on reminding us of the fine $ we have to bear if we got caught on the rail, mumbling “tourists’ doing caused trouble…” Didn’t help us with any photos, and highly sensitive of time when we tried to take more photos. We went there to make a wish, but the whole experience of wish-making was quite the opposite of feeling positive. kids were disappointed. regret we didn’t choose other shops/ service on klook. many others look cheerful and fun.
