What to expect

Wagashi, traditional Japanese sweets, are as delightful to look at as they are to taste. Learn to make your own cultural confections in Kyoto, a prefecture well known for its refined dessert culture. Using premium Bitchu Azuki bean paste and plant-based ingredients, you’ll shape nerikiri under the guidance of an experienced wagashi instructor with over 20 years of expertise. Nerikiri features sweet bean paste formed into a variety of seasonal motifs. In this class, you’ll create two nerikiri designs inspired by Kyoto’s seasonal flowers, then sit down to enjoy your handmade treats. Unwind over your creations and take home a recipe so you can revisit this Kyoto-inspired sweet-making experience later.

This was an absolute gem of an experience! getting to learn and make wagashi first hand and try some of the techniques was really fun. Then getting to eat them with tea after made it even better. The instructor was brilliant and explained things perfectly and in such a way that we (me, my wife, and 9 year old) could all feel confident in making the sweets. We plan to take a private class to learn more on our next trip!

This was an excellent experience! Our teacher was very friendly, spoke English fluently, and helped us every step of the way. The final result was beautiful and relatively easy to achieve, and the sweets tasted wonderful. I recommend this for anyone curious about wagashi!

The teacher was fantastic and very patient explaining each of the steps in English. I'm glad the class was small so she can help each person. There were a total of 5 people in the class plus the teacher.

Great experience! We learnt about the process and then made two different types (they turned out surprisingly well). The guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. We were lucky to be the only two in that session (2pm), so it was a private lesson.

Super entertaining. In a very relaxed and fun atmosphere you have the chance to learn so much about Japanese sweets, and even make some for yourself... and even if you do not match the accuracy of the Sensei, at least they end up to be as tasty :)
