Fantastic 5.0
Here’s a balanced review you could post: Our Northern Explorer journey was an average experience. We booked the standard seating as the Scenic Plus (VIP) option was already fully booked. The scenery was beautiful, but the onboard audio commentary could be improved, as some parts were unclear, making it difficult to fully appreciate the landmarks and views. The staff, especially the train manager, were very friendly and welcoming, which made the trip more enjoyable. The onboard food was convenient but limited in choice and mostly reheated. Overall, it was a pleasant journey, but a few improvements to the commentary and food selection would make the experience much better.

Fantastic 5.0
Even before setting foot on Tiritiri Matangi, the ferry ride from Gulf Harbour was a highlight. The crew was friendly and full of great tips for spotting wildlife once on the island. We saw little blue penguins floating on the water and several seabirds riding the bow wave. The boat is comfortable, with both indoor and outdoor seating, and the captain slowed down whenever someone spotted dolphins or penguins. Just remember to book ahead – it sells out quickly, especially on weekends. My only small gripe: bring your own snacks, as onboard options are limited. Still, easily 5 stars for the smooth trip and incredible approach to the island’s beautiful lighthouse.

Fantastic 5.0
The Rangitoto ferry from downtown Auckland is quick (about 25 minutes) but packed with great views. The crew was helpful, pointing out landmarks like the harbour bridge and Devonport along the way. The boat is clean and stable, with plenty of outdoor deck space for photos. Once you arrive, the island’s rugged lava fields and the summit track await – the ferry times are well spaced, giving you a solid 4–5 hours to explore. My only minor suggestion: arrive early, as the return queue can get long on sunny weekends. Also, bring water and sunscreen; there’s no shop on the island. Overall, a smooth, reliable service that gets you to one of Auckland’s best day trips.

Fantastic 5.0
First, we walked through the cave, admiring the beautiful natural art created by the stalactites. Then, we boarded a boat and continued deeper into the cave. In the silent cave, the occasional sound of dripping water echoed, and looking up at the ceiling where the glowworms' lights flickered, I was enveloped in a strange sensation, as if I were in another world. The cave tour itself lasted just under an hour. Although it was a long 5-hour round trip from Auckland, I'm glad I went. On the way there, we stopped at a coffee shop for a light meal. Photography is prohibited inside the cave, so at the entrance, they took a blue-screen photo of us, and after the tour, we could purchase data or prints that combined our photo with images from inside the cave.

Great 4.0
Thanks to the Klook service platform, despite a small hiccup, I was able to happily join the boat trip with music and cheese on June 28th from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM. The sky was clear, and the sea views were breathtaking.

Fantastic 5.0
The tour was well organized, informative, and enjoyable from start to finish. It was fascinating to learn about the history and behind-the-scenes details of the set. The scenery was stunning, and there were plenty of opportunities to take memorable photos. The comfortable luxury van made the journey relaxing and pleasant, allowing us to sit back and take in the beautiful scenery along the way.

What to know before visiting Auckland

Discover Auckland’s highlights and visitor rhythm

Auckland’s most-booked experiences on Klook are tours, outdoor & sports activities, and museums, with observation decks and wildlife attractions also popular. Booking demand peaks in June and dips around February, so the city’s visitor rhythm swings between a busy mid-year season and quieter pockets early in the calendar year.

Best times to visit for price and crowd trade-offs

According to Klook booking data, June is the busiest month while February sees the lowest demand. Prices throughout the year move independently at times: bookings climb into June, but the priciest month on Klook was July, and the cheapest typical prices appeared in January. If you want lower prices and smaller crowds, aim for January or February; if you want the peak-season atmosphere and most activity options, plan for June or July. Note that demand and prices don’t always move together here — the busiest month is not the absolute priciest, so you can sometimes find good value near the high season.

Tips for travellers from Malaysia

Most travellers from Malaysia on Klook book about three days ahead, with many last-minute bookings possible a day out and some early planners locking things in around three weeks. For short, flexible trips you can secure many activities a few days before travel; if you’re visiting in June or July consider booking earlier to guarantee popular tours and outdoor activities. Use Klook to confirm spots and pick refundable options where available for extra flexibility.
