Fantastic 5.0
Here’s a balanced review you could post: Our Northern Explorer journey was an average experience. We booked the standard seating as the Scenic Plus (VIP) option was already fully booked. The scenery was beautiful, but the onboard audio commentary could be improved, as some parts were unclear, making it difficult to fully appreciate the landmarks and views. The staff, especially the train manager, were very friendly and welcoming, which made the trip more enjoyable. The onboard food was convenient but limited in choice and mostly reheated. Overall, it was a pleasant journey, but a few improvements to the commentary and food selection would make the experience much better.

The Rangitoto ferry from downtown Auckland is quick (about 25 minutes) but packed with great views. The crew was helpful, pointing out landmarks like the harbour bridge and Devonport along the way. The boat is clean and stable, with plenty of outdoor deck space for photos. Once you arrive, the island’s rugged lava fields and the summit track await – the ferry times are well spaced, giving you a solid 4–5 hours to explore. My only minor suggestion: arrive early, as the return queue can get long on sunny weekends. Also, bring water and sunscreen; there’s no shop on the island. Overall, a smooth, reliable service that gets you to one of Auckland’s best day trips.

Even before setting foot on Tiritiri Matangi, the ferry ride from Gulf Harbour was a highlight. The crew was friendly and full of great tips for spotting wildlife once on the island. We saw little blue penguins floating on the water and several seabirds riding the bow wave. The boat is comfortable, with both indoor and outdoor seating, and the captain slowed down whenever someone spotted dolphins or penguins. Just remember to book ahead – it sells out quickly, especially on weekends. My only small gripe: bring your own snacks, as onboard options are limited. Still, easily 5 stars for the smooth trip and incredible approach to the island’s beautiful lighthouse.

The tour was well organized, informative, and enjoyable from start to finish. It was fascinating to learn about the history and behind-the-scenes details of the set. The scenery was stunning, and there were plenty of opportunities to take memorable photos. The comfortable luxury van made the journey relaxing and pleasant, allowing us to sit back and take in the beautiful scenery along the way.

I've visited almost all the attractions around Rotorua, such as Waiotapu Thermal Wonderland, Blue Spring, Huka Falls, and Lake Taupo. What left the deepest impression were Blue Spring and Huka Falls, with their incredibly pristine water and air quality. I really loved these two spots.

Really enjoyed the experience. Smooth van transfers to and from the Hobbiton site from Auckland and the vehicle is really comfortable. The tour guide on the hobbiton tour is really knowledgeable that you get to experience the full movie yourself. The movie set is unbelievably amazing and looks just like the movie.

Fantastic 5.0
The Hobbiton Movie Set Tour was one of the best tours I have ever experienced and was absolutely worth it. The tour itself was well organized, and I thoroughly enjoyed every part of the experience. However, I was disappointed with the way tour cancellations were handled. My Rotorua tour was cancelled at a very late stage, which was unfortunate, especially since I had only planned to spend three days in Auckland. The late cancellation made it difficult to adjust my itinerary and arrange an alternative activity. Despite this setback, I truly enjoyed my visit to Hobbiton, and it was the highlight of my trip.

Made my visit to Waiheke Island really easy and chill. It already includes the the round trip boat ride to and from the island, and the hop on hop off bus ride within the island. You have the option to just hop off on sites you want to visit within the route.

What to know before visiting Auckland

Auckland at a glance: top activities and seasonal rhythm

Auckland is a varied destination where tours, outdoor & sports activities, and museums dominate bookings on Klook. Demand peaks in mid-winter July and falls to its lowest in September, so the city’s year has a clear high point and quieter shoulder months.

Best times to visit and how prices move

Klook data show July as the busiest month and September as the quietest. Prices on Klook rise into August (the priciest month in the price series) and then drift down through spring into June, which appears typically the cheapest month in past bookings. If you want lower prices and smaller crowds, aim for the quieter months around September through November; if you want the peak-season atmosphere and the widest activity choice, July delivers that. Note that demand and prices don’t move perfectly together here: the absolute priciest month in past prices is August, while demand tops out in July.

Tips for travellers from the Philippines

Most travellers from the Philippines book a few days in advance on average, with many bookings made around three days before activities and last-minute options available about a day out, so short-notice trips are feasible. If you’re planning to travel in July (the busiest month), consider booking earlier—around two to three weeks ahead—to secure popular tours and outdoor activities. Use Klook to compare schedules and lock in options once your dates are set.
