Fantastic 5.0
Today's weather was quite cloudy, but our female tour guide and driver worked very hard, observing the clouds to find a suitable spot for aurora viewing. In the last hour before we had to leave, we finally saw the aurora, which was incredibly lucky. I'm very grateful to her for driving us around to find the best viewing spots and for helping us take beautiful photos. 🥰

Fantastic 5.0
Our 4-day, 3-night trip was excellent overall. I was a bit worried at first, but upon arrival at the airport, a tour guide met us. On the way to the hotel, we saw the Northern Lights, and the guide immediately helped us chase them and take photos. Due to limited room availability, we couldn't stay in the same hotel for all three nights. The guide assisted us with the hotel transfer and arranged for us to tour the city with explanations. For the three nights of aurora chasing, on the second night, we were arranged to wait for the Northern Lights in a house, or we could choose to wait in a tent. On the third night, we waited in the car. Hot tea and water were also provided.

Fantastic 5.0
I am Korean and went on a tour with Chinese tourists. The Chinese male guide was very kind. However, a snowmobile driven by another Chinese tourist went off the road and into the mountains ^^. The guide worked very hard because of that tourist. I got to ride the snowmobile for a long time. Thank you for creating unforgettable memories.

What to know before visiting Yellowknife

Top experiences overview

Yellowknife’s most-booked experiences mix cultural attractions, outdoor and sports activities, and guided tours, with cultural experiences leading the way followed by outdoor adventure and a smaller share of tours. Demand rises and falls through the year, peaking in 9月 when bookings surge and dipping around 5月, so the city’s highlights are busiest in that late-summer window.

Activities by traveller type

Families will find cultural experiences especially accessible — these tend to be the most affordable and suit group visits and heritage-minded outings. Couples often gravitate toward outdoor and sports activities for shared adventure and scenic moments, while small groups and solo travellers can choose from a wide range of tours for deeper local insight and tailored itineraries. The tours category shows the biggest variation in price and style, so it’s a good fit for travellers seeking something specific or premium.

What travellers from Malaysia book ahead

Most travellers here book around three weeks in advance, with the earliest planners booking closer to roughly six weeks ahead; booking ahead matters most in the peak months of 9月 when demand is highest. For the most part you can stay flexible and pick many activities a day or two before travel, but lock in tours and any must-do experiences well before 9月 to avoid missing out.

Category comparison

Cultural experiences are the easiest way in, offering the lowest typical price point and steady availability for budget-minded visitors and families. Outdoor & sports activities sit at a moderate price level and appeal to couples and active travellers looking for shared experiences. Tours are the priciest on average and have the widest spread of options — from mid-range to premium — making them the best choice for travellers after tailored, higher-end or specialist experiences.
