Fantastic 5.0
Today's weather was quite cloudy, but our female tour guide and driver worked very hard, observing the clouds to find a suitable spot for aurora viewing. In the last hour before we had to leave, we finally saw the aurora, which was incredibly lucky. I'm very grateful to her for driving us around to find the best viewing spots and for helping us take beautiful photos. 🥰

Fantastic 5.0
Our 4-day, 3-night trip was excellent overall. I was a bit worried at first, but upon arrival at the airport, a tour guide met us. On the way to the hotel, we saw the Northern Lights, and the guide immediately helped us chase them and take photos. Due to limited room availability, we couldn't stay in the same hotel for all three nights. The guide assisted us with the hotel transfer and arranged for us to tour the city with explanations. For the three nights of aurora chasing, on the second night, we were arranged to wait for the Northern Lights in a house, or we could choose to wait in a tent. On the third night, we waited in the car. Hot tea and water were also provided.

Fantastic 5.0
I am Korean and went on a tour with Chinese tourists. The Chinese male guide was very kind. However, a snowmobile driven by another Chinese tourist went off the road and into the mountains ^^. The guide worked very hard because of that tourist. I got to ride the snowmobile for a long time. Thank you for creating unforgettable memories.

What to know before visiting Yellowknife

Top experiences to try throughout the year

Yellowknife’s things-to-do mix is led by cultural experiences, followed by outdoor & sports activities and a smaller but pricier selection of tours. Demand rises and falls through the year, peaking around 2025-09 and dipping lowest in 2025-05, so the kinds of activities available and how busy they feel change with the seasons.

What different travellers tend to enjoy here

Families will find cultural experiences the easiest fit — accessible, budget-friendly options that give a sense of local life and heritage. Couples often gravitate to outdoor & sports activities for fresh-air adventures and scenery. Solo travellers and small groups who want more curated or premium experiences will lean toward tours, which also offer the widest range from mid-range to higher-end choices.

What travellers from Hong Kong typically book in advance

Most travellers from Hong Kong keep planning flexible for Yellowknife but still book key items around 20 days ahead on average, with the earliest planners locking things in roughly 45 days out. Booking ahead matters most around the peak period in 2025-09, when demand is noticeably higher.

How the main categories compare on price and who they suit

Cultural experiences are the easiest, cheapest way in and tend to suit budget-conscious visitors and families. Outdoor & sports activities sit a little higher in price and appeal to those after active, scenic experiences. Tours are the priciest on average and show the widest spread of options, making them the go-to for travellers seeking premium or highly curated itineraries.
