Italy's best-preserved castles

Scaligero Castles in Sirmione and Malcesine

There are actually two famous Scaligero Castles in the Lake Garda area, the Scaligero Castle of Sirmione and the Scaligero Castle of Malcesine. The one in Sirmione is quite a sight with it's fortress alone. The castle's encircled by Lake Garda's waters and has impressive towers, drawbriges, and even a moat, all proving the impressive military architecture of the medieval era. The Scaligero Castle in Sirmione can be found in the southern end of the lake.

In Malcesine, equally as impressive as it sits atop a rock foundation dramatically overlooking the lake. You can find the Scaligero Castle in Malcesine on the eastern shore of Lake Garda.

Castle of Lazise

The Castle of Lazise, along with its medieval walls, is a major historical landmark on Lake Garda's eastern side. Originating in the medieval era, the castle and fortifications was once a defensive stronghold and had many modifications over the centuries. Isola san Biagio
