Fantastic 5.0
Wakayama Kobo Hotel is conveniently located, and the rooms are clean and comfortable. Next door is a public library combined with Starbucks and Tsutaya Bookstore, where you can drink coffee, read books, and buy stationery or souvenirs. The rooftop open-air bath has a wide view. Soaking in the hot spring is relaxing and healing, which is the favorite enjoyment of this trip and worth revisiting. Cleanliness: Excellent Breakfast: Simple, Japanese-style, not bad, matched with comfortable and relaxing scenery

Fantastic 5.0
The hotel's location is very convenient, close to Wakayama JR Station and connected to Kintetsu Department Store. The bus terminal downstairs makes it easy to take a bus to Kuroshio Market or other attractions. Mr. Cao, the front desk receptionist, was very friendly. We paid extra for breakfast, and the only thing to mention is that the breakfast was just average, not particularly delicious.

Fantastic 5.0
The hotel's location is convenient, just a 5-minute walk from the station. Although the hotel seems a bit old, everything else is great. The public bath, though small, is very unique, and they offer free popsicles and Yakult. There's also complimentary late-night ramen at 9:30 PM. I would choose this hotel again on my next visit to Wakayama.

Fantastic 5.0
The hotel has convenient transportation and isn't far from the city center. Almost all rooms have ocean views, perfect for relaxing. You can take a shuttle, and if it's outside of the shuttle hours, there are also buses available. The room decor isn't old and outdated, it's very comfortable. Luckily, there weren't many people during my stay, so I almost had the public bath all to myself 👍

Great 4.0
The itinerary was good and we enjoyed all the stops ourselves. The driver/guide was friendly but there was no guided tour, it was pretty much a transportation service with minimal communication.

Fantastic 5.0
I had an amazing time with my guide, Kimi! Kimi was super knowledgeable and sweet during the tour, and was extremely engaging with my friend and I (we did a private tour for 2). We went to the tour knowing very little about the cultural significance aside from what we read online and finished a tour with a newfound appreciation for the Nachisan area. It is an understatement how much I enjoyed myself on this tour and I highly reccommend everyone to book this tour if they are going to see the nachi falls! Aside from the amazing guide, the tour company was also very responsive, providing email updates on who to contact and where to meet, making it very easy to find our guide on the day itself.

Fantastic 5.0
It was great to see a part of Japan that wasn't touristy and would have been difficult to access without a personal driver. Our guide was great and extremely sweet. She did not speak fluent English but was still very helpful and got us arouns safe. We highly recommend this tour if you would like to see a part of Japan that has more locals than tourist!

What to know before visiting Wakayama

Quick snapshot of Wakayama and what to expect

Wakayama draws bookings mainly for attraction passes and guided tours, with activity spread through the year but a clear high season in late summer. Demand peaks in August and falls to its lowest in January, so the city’s rhythm ranges from lively summer months to much quieter winters.

Best times to visit based on demand and prices

Klook booking data show August as the busiest month and January as the quietest. Prices drift through the year: July is typically the cheapest month on Klook while March often shows the highest typical prices. For lower prices and smaller crowds, aim for July or the winter trough in January; for peak-season atmosphere and busiest services choose August. Note that prices and demand don’t always move in lockstep here — the busiest month (August) is not the absolute cheapest, so you can find quieter pockets in months that aren’t the cheapest on price charts.

Tips for travellers from Hong Kong

Travellers from Hong Kong tend to book flexibly for Wakayama: typical Klook behaviour shows most bookings are made with very short lead times. If you’re planning a short trip, you can often book experiences a day or two out, but consider securing spots around the busy August peak since demand rises sharply then. Use Klook to reserve attraction passes and tours in advance when you want certainty, or wait until close to travel for last-minute flexibility.
