Among the most famous and well-known masters of Japanese Ukiyo-e art are Katsushika Hokusai (renowned for "The Great Wave off Kanagawa" from his "Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji"), Kitagawa Utamaro (specializing in portraits of beautiful women), Tōshūsai Sharaku (famous for his portraits of Kabuki actors), Utagawa Hiroshige (known for his series of famous landscapes), and Utagawa Kuniyoshi (renowned for his fantastical themes). Each of these artists possesses a distinct style, together forming the golden age of Ukiyo-e. This exhibition is divided into 10 sections and combines 3D animated projections, surround sound, and interactive installations to bring the classic works of Ukiyo-e to life through technology. It offers visitors an immersive artistic experience, allowing them to feel the rich atmosphere of Japan's Edo period. As a thoughtful touch, visitors also receive a postcard and can create their own version of Hokusai's "The Great Wave off Kanagawa" by layering colors using stamps in a manner that imitates the original woodblock printing process. It's a joy to obtain your very own collectible!

Review for: Extension Single Ticket

Stepping into the immersive Ukiyo-e exhibition feels like traveling back to the Edo period. The artwork, once static on paper, slowly comes to life with light, projections, and animation. Cherry blossoms gently fall, waves surge, and the sleeves of samurai flutter in the wind. The originally flat images gain rhythm, details are magnified, and every moment seems to tell a story. Standing in the exhibition hall, time seems to slow down, allowing me to carefully appreciate the artist's dedication and experience the everyday life and romance within the Ukiyo-e. This is more than just an exhibition; it's a conversation with history, art, and emotion.

The layout of the exhibition is very smooth. After entering, you can fully understand the life and works of several famous Japanese Ukiyo-e masters. In addition, each area has its theme, layer upon layer, like opening different surprise boxes. Children can focus on appreciating it and find it very interesting. I personally like the themes of Beauty, Blue, and Elegance, which fully demonstrate the customs and characteristics of the Edo period in Japan. Ukiyo-e is a gorgeous and delicate cultural art.

A fantastic exhibition featuring moving Ukiyo-e. The video projections and sound and light effects are very Japanese and meticulously crafted. In addition, the exhibition introduces Ukiyo-e's production methods, history, paper evolution, Taiwanese paper mills, and its connection to Western painting. Highly recommend this exhibition.

I was lucky enough to snag early bird tickets for two, and even got a free mug! Factoring out the mug's price, the ticket cost was practically nothing! The exhibition space isn't huge, but the dynamic visuals are beautiful, really relaxing, and perfect for zoning out and watching for ages!

Highly recommend taking the time to see this meaningful exhibition. Walking into the venue feels like stepping back into Japan's Edo period; for a moment, I thought I had traveled through time 😂. If I have the chance and time permits, I'd love to see it again. A friendly reminder to choose your visiting time carefully, as the weather is hot and heatstroke is common. Please be careful when going out!
