Transport in Hualien

I had fun exploring Southern Taiwan with this 3 day pass. Very easy to use, it comes with a booklet that you'll get from the HSR counter. You can book your HSR in advance through the website, can even change your time of departure when you go to the counter. My accomodation is in Taipei and the day trips in Taichung and Tainan was just a breeze. HSR also provides free shuttle bus between HSR station to the main city, just research for the bus number. You have to go through the staff at the gates to pass through, they will inspect the booklet. I'll comeback to explore more of South Taiwan!

The car rental location is conveniently located just outside the front station exit, a short walk to the right. They also provide a waterproof phone holder and two raincoats. The vehicles are very new and in excellent condition. If you exceed the rental time, there's an additional charge of $50 per hour.

Our driver, Mr. Zhang Shiliang, was very responsible, introducing coastal attractions while driving. We visited a total of 6 attractions, and we could decide how long to stay at each one, making the itinerary very flexible. My favorite attraction was the Dashibi Mountain Trail, which was really easy to walk. Although it was drizzling, the rain had its own charm, but I was looking forward to seeing the blue ocean and sky even more! We also went to a cafe on the edge of a cliff, which the driver recommended along the way. Enjoying afternoon tea while admiring the sea view was super chill♡

Longer duration train ride from Kaohsiung to Taipei on TRA theme train. Worth the time spent. Free drinks throughout - non alcoholic. Happy hour for unlimited beer. One meal provided. Onboard karaoke for passengers use. Theme merchandise, cutlery, cup, cup holders, napkins and wet tissues. So much more fun for the family and kids. Clean train cabin and better looking chairs. Comfortable 5 hours and 14 minutes ride just for the experience.

Mr. Wu is a very experienced driver. He took us to many places, providing explanations along the way and letting us choose the spots we liked. It was a pleasant trip with beautiful scenery. The weather was incredibly nice, but also very sunny and hot. Still, it was worth it to see the beautiful ocean. The drive from Taitung to Hualien is truly full of stunning views.
