Kyoto: Experiència autèntica de fabricació de ganivets en una ferreria

Aquesta va ser una experiència fenomenal. Espereu molta suor i agulletes després, però val molt la pena. Comenceu escollint quin tipus de ganivet voleu fer, i després aneu a la forja on els guies us mostren com picar el metall escalfat per expandir-lo i convertir-lo en el vostre ganivet. Us ajuden durant tot el procés (la meva parella ho va fer bé, però jo vaig necessitar una mica més d'ajuda ja que no tinc gaire força al canell ni al braç i em vaig cansar bastant ràpid) i us ajuden a donar-li la forma desitjada. Hi sou durant una hora o una hora i mitja, després poliu el ganivet fins a la forma perfecta i afileu la fulla (cosa que em va encantar). Els guies us expliquen com es feien els ganivets tradicionals abans de les cintes de polir que tenen ara, i obteniu l'experiència completa. Els guies van ser increïbles, van donar la quantitat perfecta d'orientació i van ajudar amb els passos finals per assegurar-se que el vostre ganivet fos el millor possible. Un aplaudiment a Mits i Deiki! Ho tornaria a fer sense cap dubte, i recomano molt l'experiència!

Knife forging ⸻ The knife forging course I took was a great, beginner-friendly experience. The whole setup—getting to heat the metal, hammer it into shape, and see the process—was exciting and gave a real sense of what it’s like to make a blade. That said, it’s very much an introductory-level activity. When they tell you to hammer, they simply say “hammer”—there’s no in-depth guidance on how much force to use, technique, or finer details. So, if you’re expecting a highly technical lesson, this might not be it. Still, it’s a fantastic way to get a feel for knife forging and to understand the craftsmanship behind handmade knives and even katanas. After making one yourself, you gain a lot of respect for the skill and effort involved in creating a beautiful, functional knife. A word of caution—if you have a weak neck, shoulder issues, or old injuries, be aware that hammering can be a bit strenuous. Overall, it was a memorable and rewarding experience.

Need a kitchen knife? Make your own. This is it! As a family of 5, it was well worth it to learn an aspect of culture and have your kids participate. This business in particular, is tailored to your group so there is no large corporate awkwardness. As a small business they are able assist you one on one, as necessary. Learn to make a knife: heating, pounding to shape, grinding and sharpening; all in one. I'm from the US and have toured a lot if places.....this one is fun, enjoyable, and most everyone can get something out of this experience.

This was an incredibly fun and beginner/proof knife making experience! The 2.5h went by really fast. We went through all the steps with very helpful instructions from the staff as we go through the process.

This was an amazing experience! I truly recommend it to everyone. I'm not very strong so it was hard but he helped me to get a good result. The activity can be longer than planned if needed so be careful with your schedule. He took the time to explain and help us and he was soooo sweet! I will remember this forever!

This was an amazing experience! Highly recommend!!! Mao was very friendly and spoke great English. The facility was clean and very well equipped.

My husband and I had a lot of fun pounding the steel until it became a working knife. We noticed a couple of lonely husbands at the workshop because their wives would rather go shopping. That's no excuse! Every woman and man should try this and feel proud bringing home their own knife.

sehr feiner erfahrung!!! die Schmiedmeister sind unglaublich visiert in ihrem handwerk und bringen eine das ganze sehr spielerisch bei. sie begleiten dich von anfang bis ende also auch selbst jemand der noch nie etwas in die richtgemaxht hat ist bestens aufgehoben! Auch die nette dame die einem am anfang alles erklärt wie der genaue schmied prozess abläuft ist schon sehr spannend und man erfährt auch über die schmiedgeschichte viele fakten warum nach der kriegszeit die katana schmiede eine neue spate suchen mussten da katana nicht mehr gefragt waren und sie in die messer schmiede wechselten die heute weltweit in jeder küche genutzt werden! kann die Aktivität nur wärmstens weiterempfehlen🙏 man darf übrigens sein selbst geschmiedetes messer mit nachhase nehmen🙌herzlichen dank an das gesamte team Dōmo arigatogozaimasu🙇

It was an amazing experience. It was very fun. The master and his assistants were very knowledgeable and nice. However if you have not done much arm/hand exercises before be prepare for a nice workout while trying to accurately hammer your knife.

this is a very basic entry level workshop in knife making; the instructor explains the process of knife/sword making and is very informative. you start with a selection process of what style knife you want to make and you go from there. the instructor is very patient and will often tell you where your going wrong and how to improve the shape of the blade etc after forging you will then quench your blade before having a small break, afterwards you will then work on sharpening before being presented a box for your new handmade knife and a unique carry bag for it too. for anyone who has an interest in making a weapon I’d definitely consider this
