Tokyo Okutama Mountain Half-Day Cycling Adventure with Wasabi Tasting

Just a short and surprisingly easy train ride away, you’ll find yourself surrounded by stunning scenery, peaceful countryside, and a completely different side of Tokyo. The tour moves at a relaxed pace, making it an enjoyable way to explore the area while taking in the beautiful views. David was an outstanding guide who incredibly knowledgeable, passionate about the local area, and full of interesting insights that made the experience even more memorable. He was an excellent communicator reaching out before the day to assist us with transport and navigating our way to the meeting point. The e-bikes were modern, comfortable, and very easy to ride, even on the steeper hills, so you definitely don’t need to be an experienced cyclist to enjoy the tour. Highly recommend this activity for anyone wanting to experience a quieter, more scenic side of Japan beyond the city.

We book the tour trying to escape from the heat from city centre, it turned out to be a fantastic gat away!! I commute with bicycle a lot in the city thought this tour wouldn’t be too much, thanks God we were riding e-bike! it made the 20km like 10km! David is a wonderful guide, he showed us all around the Okutama lake and paid attention to details, very considerate! We were very lucky to have him as bumping into bears in the woods, he quickly took out whistle and spray and shared the info with everyone we met along the ride. So happy we made it today :)

Fantastic way to get away from the bustling city for a day and enjoy the beautiful mountain scenery! David was very accommodating as I accidentally booked the wrong day and he honored the day I intended. The train ride was nearly 2.5 hours from Asakusa but it was such a scenic ride that it was very enjoyable and not difficult. David kindly met us at the station and showed us a place to eat and after the ride, took us to a wasabi shop and a small tour of this quaint town. The ride itself was one of best in Japan! We have done 3 other bike rides and this is my favorite. He kept the pace easy and we learned about so many historical facts about the area. Great local knowledge, friendly, fun. I highly recommend this tour, it’s very memorable. Oh and yes the freshly grated wasabi tasting was amazing!

Cycling through Okutama was one of the most unforgettable outdoor experiences I've had in Japan. Just a few hours from central Tokyo, this mountainous region offered a perfect escape into nature, with winding roads surrounded by lush forests, clear rivers, and the calming scent of cedar trees. The ride took us through the beautiful historical roads, through peaceful mountain villages, and to Lake Okutama’s stunning waters. We learned about local legends and spiritual rituals. One of the highlights was visiting the wasabi fields, nestled in a serene valley where fresh spring water flows over vibrant green rows, cultivated with care and history. It was a beautiful blend of scenery, culture, and calm. Every moment of the ride was a harmony of physical adventure, natural beauty, and cultural discovery—an ideal day trip for anyone looking to experience a different side of Tokyo.
