What To Expect

A must-visit museum in Nagoya for anyone with even the slightest interest in Japanese culture and history. Built on the site of one of the residences of the Edo Period's hugely wealthy Owari Tokugawa family, the museum houses an extensive and diverse collection of over 10,000 treasures including samurai swords, priceless scrolls, ancient tea sets, costumes, poems and maps. Many items are even designated National Treasures, Important Cultural Properties or Important Art Objects. If you're lucky, the world-famous Tale of Genji picture scrolls may be on display (or you can watch the video instead). Tie your trip in with a visit the the adjacent Tokugawa-en beautifully landscaped Japanese garden (not included with this ticket.)

How To Get There:
  • From Nagoya Eki Mae Bus terminal No.2 to Tokugawaen Shindeki Bus Stop by the City Bus (2-keito) - Hikarigaoka/Idakahsako direction (20 min, 200 yen), approx. 3 min walk from Tokugawaen Shindeki Bus Stop
  • Exit from JR Ozone Station south gate and walk for approx. 10 min
  • You can enter the museum on any day, simply show your physical ticket at the entrance
  • You must redeem this voucher for your entry ticket

Opening Hours:

  • Tuesday-Sunday: 10:00am-5:00pm (last admission 4:30pm)
  • Saturday, Sunday and Japan's National Holidays: open at 11:00am
  • Closed: every Monday, the day after Japan's National Holidays, from late December to New Year's vacation
