What to expect

Venture into the ancient villages of Kathmandu Valley in this exploration of Bungamati and Khokana. Because of their relative inaccessibility, visiting the towns is akin to going back in time – a time when locals gather in main squares and the call of everyday work intermingles with communal life. Such sights are what you'll see on this journey, with Bungamati's resident woodcarvers and craftsfolk hard at work. The place is home to the shrine of Rato Macchendranath, patron god of Patan, alongside other religious monuments. You can expect a similar ambience in Khokana, where locals live largely off of their agriculture. Learn about their renowned produce, mustard oil, and the unique way it is harvested, then pay a visit to the landmark three-storey temple dedicated to Shikali Mai, the local mother goddess.

Our tour guide Pravin is very nice! He treated us delicious local Nepali tea and sweet pastry and let us take our time to take photos! Both villages are very relax and rural, very different from the city.

Menuka was a fantastic guide who made this short trip a really memorable one. Having been able to see the newari people’s everyday life was a great experience - the hanging bridge was just an added bonus!

I booked this itinerary and four historical attractions in Kathmandu on Klook. The tour guides sent were all the same. He couldn’t speak Chinese at all, and he didn’t even speak English well. Moreover, the tour guide himself had never been to the scenic spots he visited. They all ask passers-by how to get there. They are not a qualified tour guide at all. They can only explain a scenic spot in two sentences at most, and they don’t speak the language well. When I booked, I asked for a Chinese-speaking tour guide, but it turned out that the tour guide’s Chinese was only about the level of a one-year-old child. Even more Not to mention that I can introduce the scenic spots in language, my English is not very good, so I have no idea why I want to find this tour guide. He will not arrange the time for using the toilet or the time for the car to pick up. When we asked to use the toilet, he still refused. It took a lot of time to find the toilet, and we had to walk a lot of roads to find the parking spot of the car instead of the car picking us up. We will never dare to book travel on Klook again in the future. This travel experience has made us It feels very bad.

The guides explained clearly, introduced the characteristics of the village of 蹦格马迪 one by one, and let us visit different handicrafts, such as wood carvings, weaving, etc., which opened our eyes.

DON'T book this tour. I extremely "DO NOT" recommend this tour, The two villages were damaged by the earthquake and very small, so almost "ALL attractions", temples, old houses were collapsed, only loads red bricks there. Literally "NOTHING". The tour time was very short, not indicated as 4 hours at the webpage, but I've only got 1 and half hour. We left hotel around 10am and finish the tour around 11:30 (including 40 minutes transport time). I have to argued and negotiate with tour guide if they're willing to take us other nearby old town area. Of course they asked add money first, which is very exhausted to make deal with them. Lastly, I have to go back to my hotel by myself because I choose going to other place. It's totally not a pleasant experience.

Our guide kutar proved to be extremely knowledgeable about pretty much every relevant topic during our Great and memorable journey. Besides being a great guide, Biji also became a true friend. So if you're looking for a journey in Nepal with a company and guide that is besides flexible, friendly, and honest, also a smart -minded local expert, look no further! By far the best organization I've ever been with.highly recommended Nepal Social Treks.

Good to know

Insider Tips:

  • In Bumangati, see if the wooden carving of Macchendranath is stationed in the village shrine. Tradition has it that every year, during the most important festival in the valley, the carving is transferred from the shrine in Patan and paraded through cities before being taken to Bumangati, where it stays for half a year
