What To Expect

Kathmandu's bazaars are a thing of beauty: it's the moving pulse of the locals in action, full of color, sound, and culture. Experience the bazaars for yourself with this two and half hour walking tour with the help of a local English speaking guide! Meet up with the guide at the Electric Pagoda Cafe for some refreshments to strengthen you for the journey ahead. First walk along the Asan Tole and Indra Chowk bazaars, two of the largest in the city. Spread in all directions are wares of almost every kind, from food to textiles, to jewelry and local craft souvenirs. As you admire the Newari style buildings with their terraces, and the Asan Tole crossroads, the guide will explain how local farmers bring in their produce and how each of the streets have segregated themselves according to the wares sold. After traversing these glittering streets, visit the Nyalon or Fish Stone, with the colors and flowers still upon it, before you head to the beautiful Annapurna Ajima Temples and the Aksh Bhairab Shine. See the remains of Yita Chapo and get a chance to visit the courtyards of Takse Baha, Kwathu Baha, Haku Baha, Dhalasikna Baha, Dagu Baha, Asan Baha and Hwakha Baha. All these things are part and parcel of the culture in Kathmandu, including the sacred cows that might be wandering during your trip. It's an eye-opening look into local everyday life and religious culture.
