Kyoto: Traditional Tea Ceremony with Matcha and Sweets in Gion

I had an absolutely wonderful experience today. I learned so much about the history of matcha, which was unexpected. The hosts were friendly and spoke great English. I will definitely visit them again on my next trip to Kyoto.

We had a wonderful, intimate tea ceremony with Yuko. Her warm hospitality and gentle guidance made the experience truly special. A beautiful and memorable way to enjoy this tradition—highly recommended!

10/10 experience with our tea master Mai who gave us such a vast amount of information throughout the ceremony. She was also patient and helpful when assisting us to make our own matcha tea. The sweets provided were also phenomenal and we went on to purchase some from the store recommended during the ceremony. Incredible experience.

Kenta was really welcoming and created a great atmosphere. He had vast knowledge of matcha and Japans history. It was a welcoming and fun environment and would happily recommend or do again!

A fun and educational experience. Yuko was a fantastic teacher and we all enjoyed learning a little bit about the history of matcha and the ceremonial process of making matcha tea. Great for late teens and older.

Amazing. informative and on time. highly recommend. we learned a lot and it was a calm quiet atmosphere. our host was really attentive and answered any questions we had.

The ceremony was divided into three parts. We learned historical information about matcha and how it is grown and produced. Then, the ceremony was demonstrated to us, and afterward, we were allowed to make our own matcha. Kenta guided us through the ceremony very well and answered all our questions :) It's worth it!
