Zao Ropeway & Akiu Shrine Full-Day Tour

They were great at arranging the itinerary and recommending souvenirs. The driver knew how to control the driving time, and we didn't have to wait or be delayed in returning to the city. We met at Sendai Station that day and took a minibus to Zao Ski Resort to see the snow monsters. 和樂旅行社 (Hele Travel Agency) had pre-arranged express passes for the ropeway, so we barely had to wait in line and were able to take the ropeway straight to the summit. The regular line next to us, without express passes, waited a long time in the freezing cold, and they looked pretty miserable. It was my first time seeing the spectacular snow monsters, and it was truly breathtaking. The magnificent scenery was deeply moving. The cold at the summit was far beyond what I had imagined. The wind chill that day was -12 degrees Celsius, so it is absolutely essential to take adequate precautions to stay warm. Akiu Shrine, known as the "Shrine of Victory," had a completely different atmosphere from the shrines I had visited before. It was very interesting and memorable. This tour efficiently took us to multiple attractions in a single day. The itinerary was very fulfilling, and I was very satisfied. If I have the opportunity, I would also like to participate in a day trip to Ginzan Onsen and the Fox Village.

Never seen so much snow before, it was a great experience! When taking the Zao Ropeway to see the snow monsters, because we were arranged in the priority queue, we got on the ropeway smoothly and the arrangement felt good as there wasn't a long waiting time. For lunch, it was a cafeteria combined with a local specialty product shop. During the free time, I bought a lot of local specialty foods. Afterwards, we went to Akiu Shrine, dedicated to the god of victory, and the Akiu Beer Brewery. I especially recommend the four-drink tasting set for 1500 yen in the photo. Overall, this day trip allows you to experience nature, culture, and delicious sake all in one go. Highly recommended for those who want to easily and deeply explore the Sendai suburbs.

It had been a while since I joined a tour group, and I was worried about adjusting to group activities. However, the entire trip was very smooth and worthwhile (especially at the Zao Ropeway, where the fast-track pass saved us at least an hour of waiting time! Last year, I went up the mountain on my own during peak season and waited in the snow for almost three hours to get up). The minibus was comfortable, tidy, and clean (after everyone had walked through the snow, the driver thoughtfully laid mats inside the vehicle to prevent slipping). The driver was experienced in snowy conditions and drove very safely, which was reassuring. In Japan's Tohoku region, travel times often exceed one hour, but the tour guide thoughtfully arranged rest stops where we could get out and move around. This also made me appreciate the convenience of skipping public transportation and opting for a 'direct self-drive tour.' To get to Zao snow monsters and Akiu from Sendai using public transportation, it would take at least an hour and a half, not including waiting in line. Being able to travel by small bus with a small group of fellow tourists made the trip very comfortable. I recommend this to anyone who isn't comfortable driving in snowy conditions but wants to avoid crowds on public transport!

The itinerary arrangement was outstanding, and the overall planning was very professional. This is a trustworthy travel agency, and I sincerely recommend it to everyone. I will definitely participate in their activities again next time.

After joining the day trip, you can sleep on the bus, no need to wait for buses or transfer, check timetables, or queue to buy cable car tickets, plus there's fast-track entry, which is very convenient 👍🏻

Really enjoyed this tour! The priority pass for the Zao Ropeway was a huge plus — we barely had to wait, which was great since it was very cold. Waiting a long time with a regular ticket would have been tough. The beer tasting at Great Dane Brewing was also really good. It was fun to try different beers, and they were all delicious. Overall, a smooth and enjoyable day. Would definitely recommend it!

The trip went smoothly, especially the priority lane at the Zao Ropeway station, which saved a lot of queuing time. The visit to the Akiu craft brewery at the end was also very distinctive.

Although this was the inaugural Hele tour to Zao and Akiu, the itinerary was rich and smooth. A confirmation email was sent prior to the trip, clearly indicating all connection points. The schedule was well-paced without delays. Particularly noteworthy was the priority access at Zao, where we only waited about 10 minutes to board the cable car, avoiding a long wait in the cold wind – a significant plus. I didn't have high expectations for Akiu Shrine, but upon arrival, I found it to be quite unique, especially considering its remote location. Throwing the 'bad luck stones' was especially fun. Highly recommended.
