What to expect
Sumo is considered Japan’s national sport, and some even say its history is older than Japan itself. It began as a Shinto ritual, inherited the spirit of Bushido, and still remains a vibrant part of Japanese culture today.
In this show, you’ll experience the power, tradition, and excitement of sumo up close. We’ll guide you through its rich history, sacred rituals, and signature techniques.
During the demonstration, you’ll see authentic sumo training, famous techniques (kimarite), and an intense one-round match (tachiai) between retired sumo wrestlers. For those who wish, there’s even a chance to step into the ring and challenge a sumo wrestler yourself (limited spots available).

Amazing Sumo Experience! This was truly one of the highlights of our trip! A huge thank you to Mao, who was an incredible host — she perfectly combined history, culture, and most importantly, hands-on practice. We even got to train with the sumo wrestlers, which was such a unique and unforgettable experience! Koto and Hagi were absolutely wonderful — so kind, welcoming, and full of good energy. They made the whole experience even more fun, and we laughed a lot together
This was a wonderful experience, Mao was so knowledgeable and so sweet. The wrestlers were entertaining and I ultimately had a great fun time. Would recommend 10 out of 10 instructor:
we were not sure what to expect at the start, but the host and sumo wrestlers were excellent! very entertaining and informative!
An absolute must-do experience! The first part was more theoretical, with explanations about the history of sumo and the main moves. In the second part, the two wrestlers arrived and first showed us some moves, then had a brief fight, and finally the most fun part: 10 of us present actually wrestled with the two sumo wrestlers. Perfect to do with family, as a couple, or even solo!
10/10 would do again. We had a few people genuinely engaged as well which made it more fun. hosts were great & sumo wrestlers were entertaining, made even what could be boring, more fun & all interacted with the audience.
We had an amazing time at the sumo experience! It was well organised. The host, Mao, was welcoming and informative, and the entire team was super friendly! The wrestlers showed incredible skill and strength, and the whole event was fun and engaging. We highly recommend it to anyone looking for a unique and memorable cultural experience!
What an absolutely fantastic experience! Attending the sumo demonstration today was the highlight of my trip. The hosts, Satoru, Ginga, Anthony, Sato, Nauto, and Kawa, put on a demonstration that was genuinely insightful and incredibly engaging. They shared the history, rituals, and techniques of sumo with such passion and clarity, making the ancient sport feel immediate and exciting. The true highlight, though, was getting the chance to participate. It was so much fun to step into the dohyo (the sumo ring) and get a real, hands-on experience of what it’s like to try a few moves. The hosts were wonderfully encouraging and made the whole process hilarious and memorable. It was a unique and truly unforgettable way to connect with this piece of Japanese culture. Huge thanks to Satoru, Ginga, Anthony, Sato, Nauto, and Kawa for hosting such a superb event. I highly recommend this experience to everyone—it’s interactive, educational, and absolutely worth your time!
Very cool experience! At the beginning I thought it was a very easy way for the Organizers to earn money as it was information and the sumos performed some moves. But my opinion completely changed when I saw how hard the sumos worked, having to complete the 10 volunteers’ challenge! Hats off to them really! They put in their all. If you can’t get really sumo wrestling tickets, this is the next best thing really. Up close with sumos is just impressive.
the guide presenter and staff speak excellent english. very interesting and engaging session. its pricey but wortht my money.
If you are looking for an authentic sumo experience in Japan, then look no further! I absolutely loved this experience!! They are the only place in Japan that offers an authentic sumo experience from a real sumo stable by retired professional sumo wrestlers!! I have looked a lot into this cause there were other places that made fun of sumo culture and didn’t respect it and just offered entertainment. But this place is the real deal. They tell you about the history of sumo and demonstrate all the techniques and then there’s a real sumo fight. also men have the chance to try out the techniques and fight the wrestlers! Overall a very fun and interesting experience. However since it’s a real stable that is still being used by sumo wrestlers any photos or videos taken can’t be posted on social media, except for the photo taken at the end with the wrestlers.
