What to expect
Today's itinerary focuses on the ancient temples of Rakuhoku and the natural scenery of Arashiyama in Kyoto, allowing you to experience the beautiful blend of historical sedimentation and seasonal scenery. 🏯
- First, we will visit Sanzen-in Temple, a leading sacred site in Rakuhoku. The temple features towering ancient trees, moss-covered grounds, and murmuring streams, with the Guest Hall and Imperial Villa standing side by side. The two pond-style gardens, Qingyuan and Jubi Garden, are excellent spots for viewing the seasonal scenery: cherry blossoms in spring, hydrangeas in summer, autumn foliage, and winter snow scenes, each season is refreshing. The temple's wooden Amitabha Tathagata statue and attendant statues are important national cultural properties.
- Afterwards, we will head to Kifune Shrine, an ancient shrine located in the northern mountains of Kyoto, divided into three areas: Hongu (main shrine), Yui no Yashiro, and Okumiya (inner shrine). The red lanterns on both sides of the stone steps are a popular spot for taking photos 📸. Yui no Yashiro enshrines the god of matchmaking, Iwanaga Hime, making it a popular spot for praying for love. The mountains near Kifune Shrine are densely forested, offering cool respite in August and vibrant autumn foliage, making it a well-known maple viewing spot in Kyoto.
- In the afternoon, we will tour the Arashiyama area, which has rich cultural attractions and seasonal natural scenery:
- Togetsukyo Bridge: Built in the 9th century, the bridge's name means "the moon appears to be crossing the bridge." It is Arashiyama's most representative landscape, harmonizing with spring cherry blossoms, autumn foliage, and winter snow scenes.
- Arashiyama Bamboo Grove: Approximately 500 meters long, it stretches from Nonomiya Shrine to Okochi Sanso Villa. The sound of the wind blowing through the bamboo leaves is listed as one of Japan's 100 most worth preserving sounds and is also a filming location for the movie "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" 🎬🎋.
- Kimono Forest (Kyoto Yuzen Light Forest): 600 colorful cylindrical pillars are arranged like a forest path, full of artistry. The interplay of light and shadow makes it very photogenic 📷. It also has dining, souvenir shops, and a foot bath rest area.
In the Arashiyama area, you can also freely arrange to visit attractions such as Tenryu-ji Temple, Nonomiya Shrine, and the retro small train (Sagano Scenic Railway tickets need to be purchased separately). Along the way, ancient temples and natural scenery are perfectly integrated, making it an ideal choice to slow down and experience the quiet charm of Kyoto.
* Today's journey ends with the ancient temple culture and the natural beauty of Arashiyama, making people feel peaceful and reaping both photography and spiritual fulfillment.

Reviews
The ride was late due to the passengers before us were late. It was our driver 孟凡哲 first time visiting the locations. There was no guide or introduction for the locations.
I wholeheartedly recommend Zhang Yanjin! This day trip to Kyoto's Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, Okochi Sanso Villa, Kifune Shrine, and Sanzen-in Temple was an absolutely fulfilling experience, completely stress-free and rejuvenating. The various attractions are quite far apart, and public transportation transfers can be a real hassle. Thanks to Yanjin's excellent pre-planning of the optimal route, our time management was perfect. We never felt rushed, nor did we waste time waiting, allowing ample time at each spot for photos and leisurely exploration. At Sanzen-in Temple, he provided detailed explanations of its history and guided us to admire the moss-covered stone Buddha statues and garden scenery. At Kifune Shrine, he taught us how to experience the unique water fortune-telling and showed us the best spots for photos of the vermilion staircase lanterns. In the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove and Okochi Sanso Villa, he led us away from the crowds to find quiet, picturesque corners, and even shared tips on local hidden culinary gems and things to avoid. He is incredibly gentle and patient, meticulously answering all our questions about routes, photography, and shopping. He drives smoothly and carefully, taking thoughtful care of everyone throughout the trip, with no rushing or hidden costs. This one-day tour connected ancient temples in the mountains with secret bamboo groves, offering a relaxed and comfortable itinerary without needing to plan anything ourselves. If you want a stress-free trip to Kyoto, I highly recommend Zhang Yanjin. I'll definitely book him again for my next Kansai trip!
I had such an amazing time in Kyoto! I especially want to commend our driver and guide, Nick Lee – he was absolutely fantastic! He's incredibly nice and professional. He was punctual from the moment he picked us up in the morning, even thoughtfully brought umbrellas for us, and arranged the entire itinerary perfectly. We visited several stunning locations like Sanzen-in Temple, Kifune Shrine, and the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove. Throughout the journey, he provided insightful explanations that were both engaging and informative, sharing local anecdotes and cultural context. Moreover, he flexibly adjusted the itinerary based on the weather and crowds, ensuring we could enjoy each attraction without feeling rushed. Overall, this trip was incredibly smooth, and the experience was top-notch!
We had a very wonderful experience visiting Sanzen-in Temple, Kifune Shrine and Arashiyama Bamboo Grove in Kyoto with our driver and guide, Nick Lee. He is such a professional guide who gave us many interesting facts about our visited places and Kyoto culture. This is our first time visiting Kyoto and this experience was above our expectation. Highly recommended.
Great to get to different locations around Kyoto. Kris was an efficient driver and made sure you were informed at each stop.
Opting for a small group tour of 4-9 people this time, for a simple getaway! At least I don't have to worry about the stress of getting around! A great choice for lazy people 👍
The tour leader Li Xiang was great, he arranged the time very well, and he was very considerate. It was a very pleasant trip, and he also sent us back to our accommodation safely.
This day tour was exceptionally well organised and ran smoothly from beginning to end. The itinerary was carefully planned, allowing us to visit iconic and scenic locations such as Sanzen-in Temple, Kifune Shrine, and Arashiyama, all at a comfortable and well-balanced pace. Our guide, Kang fu, provided outstanding service throughout the tour. He was professional, patient, and friendly, and his clear Mandarin explanations were especially appreciated, making the experience much more comfortable and enjoyable for my mum. He was also very attentive, responding promptly and clearly to questions while ensuring everyone in the group was well taken care of. Overall, this was a relaxing, enjoyable, and thoughtfully arranged tour. I would highly recommend it to travellers visiting Kyoto, particularly those travelling with family or who value clear communication and high-quality service. Thank you, Kang fu, for a wonderful experience!
Sanzen-in Temple and Kifune Shrine are both beautiful, and the minibus ride is within half an hour. However, if you take the bus on your own, it takes a big detour. For us, traveling with children on a self-guided tour, this kind of small group tour with transportation is very convenient and saves time. The driver also serves as a guide, providing simple explanations without being intrusive, and is very enthusiastic. Highly recommended.
This time I participated in Klook's one-day tour itinerary which was very rich. I look forward to participating again next time. I think it is very fun and will recommend it to others.
